It's a legit strategy. It sucks to watch for sure, but it's a legit way to expose a weakness in a roster in crunch time.
It's fucking pathetic that NBA professionals can have such abysmal free throw shooting anyway.
It's a shitty situation both ways. It would suck to to reward bad FT shooters.
But at the same time, if you watched that game last night, that fourth quarter was basically Josh Smith bricking FTs. Above all, basketball should be an entertaining product and hack-a-whoever just is incredibly dull to watch. Nobody likes or enjoys it. Even Pop says he hates it but it's a very legit way to exploit an opposition's weakness.
It's making the best of a bad situation. By all means, hack the guy if he actually has the ball, but for the deliberate off-ball fouls hack-a-shaq style, give teams the option to take an inbounds or the shots IMO. It's a simple rule change that wouldn't hurt the game.

the only real harm allowing off-ball fouls in their current form would cause is to the guy who can't hit free throws. it doesn't increase the rate of fouling all that much because teams would usually sit those guys down at end of games.
if they do not sit them, and a situation in which a normal possession gets turned into a foul instead, then that's just a trade-off that the team playing the bad ft shooter takes.

IMO they shouldn't really change the rules about hack-a-freebie-bricker. The team doing the hacking gets fouls for doing it and I think that should be enough of a penalty. It's not like other rule changes like the 5-second post-up rule because there is already a penalty for the team doing the hacking.
In other words, teams should either hire people who can shoot free throws or get poor FT-shooters to shoot better.

The Trailblazers are going to be complete fodder for whoever draws them round one. I can't believe the Wes injury has hurt them this much.

The five second backdown rule is a good example of why we should change hack-a-shaq too. It was a legit strategy back then too but watching Mark Jackson back dudes down from halfway was just awful to watch. Changing that rule has not ruined the NBA and nor would changing hack-a-shaq. You could make the same argument that the backdown rule change unfairly rewarded players with shit post defense but it helped the game greatly from a watchability standpoint.

Yeah I'd almost prefer Spurs get the 5th seed for an easy round 1. Dallas is much scarier for us imo and whether we play GS in the conference semi's or finals we still have to beat them sometime.
Easiest 1st round opponents (mainly due to injuries) are Houston, Blazers and whoever gets the 8th spot.

Gasol out for the game. Clippers should win this.

I just used the example to say that when someone backs down forever, there really is nothing the other team can do, its not like the guy posting up gets a foul every time he does it beyond 5-seconds. With hacking, the offending player gets a foul.
This issue has strong points from both sides so... I'll just leave it at that.

Lillard low key sucks at defense and he was their best perimeter defender.
Gasol returning so it looks like it's not serious
D Rose 22/6reb/8ast no TO in 28 minutes. Against the 6ers with no PGs (lol) but still nice to have him looking good, made this ridiculous pass as well http://cdn.streamable.com/video/5b0ff250e0bd11e4b888c79310888dfb.webm
idk if you can/how to embed stuff from streamable

Meh, I think the Rockets are the worst matchup. Don't really care about anyone else, besides Warriors of course.

this knicks game sums up the season perfectly. hardaway jr shoots 15% until the final 2 minutes when he wakes up and ruins the tank. can't even lose properly.

Sorry, not following why you brought up Duncan.
|
The move makes sense to me if you're really committed to the triangle cause he can post up and pass out of the post but yeah if I were the knicks i'd just tank a couple more years and wait it out, though that would be a waste of melo
|
doubt melo will ever be the same again, and tanking for longer is inevitable since the roster won't be much better next season unless Towns turns into Ewing, which is 0 chance.
|
Melo could be an amazing 2nd or 3rd man if he swallowed his pride (and greed).
|
Melo is set to have a pretty good old man game assuming his injuries don't fuck him over.
Which of their picks do they/do they not have? I know they traded a bunch for Bargs and idk if they got any back through trades or anything.
|
Must be nice not having to play any of your stars the last two games of the season.
