Beeing at the right place and getting shot in the face at the right time is a skill to master too.

If you can't tell an arm from a face 3 meters away then you might as well have blind chimpanzees refereeing matches. I am not gonna defend that penalty, because it feels that Sporting got screwed that game, every close call went against them. I believe what led to the penalty though is that the defender basically throughs both hands in the air where they clearly don't belong. If the ball goes 10cm to the left or right it is a clear cut penalty. So what I am getting at is that the goal referee probably saw malicious intend and wasn't 100% sure if the ball hit an arm. And therefore decided to reward a penalty. Sporting deserved better that game.

It was an amazing save. If Ronaldo scores an amazing goal, there is luck involved, too. edit: Sporting were a bit unlucky, but all these conspiracy theories are ridiculous. Decisions like that happen in football with no malice involved. I am not sure why UEFA should hate Portugal ...

Maenander, Sporting were not unlucky. The double yellow was given for a normally disputed header in the midfield, it's genuinely ridiculous. Then in the last penalty the referee lets it go at first, the assistant referee does not raise his flag and the penalty is only given like 5-6 seconds after the play. The only explanation is that the goal line referee communicated that he thought the ball hit the hand when he was 3 meters away from the play, looking straight at it, and couldn't tell the difference between a face and an arm (which btw are way more than 10cm away from each other). Portuguese people tend to believe in conspiracies in football because they're very close to home (Porto for two decades, no punishment), because we have certain episodes stuck in our retina (Rui Costa being sent off for walking instead of running while being subbed vs Germany in 97, costing our trip to the WC98), and things like Qatar winning the 2022 WC bid and match fixing being prevalent in many countries.
