And of course RM got a bullshit goal in their past 3 Liga games before the last one (either blatant offside or Penaldo dive in the box). Leading with a solid 7-1 penalties against Barça this year already. In Barça's last game the opponent gets to play the ball with his hand in the box... but that's not a Penaldo dive, so it's not called.
Must be real nice, winning with all these lucky coincidences lol.
"only" Last year everyone was saying no one will beat super uber Bayern but after Real beat them it's "only" Bayern....
Bias much?

just from reading this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014–15_Real_Madrid_C.F._season
in not one of their past 20 games (all wins) have penalties actually been decisive? I mean yes you can argue that the penalty vs barcelona turned the game around or whatever, but they've won every single game by more goals than there have been penalties. So it seems like a pretty petty point to try to make?
Just give credit where credit is due, this real madrid looks absolutely incredible, and ronaldo is so far this season looking like the greatest goal machine throughout the existence of modern football.

Yes the bs penalties/offside goals are nowhere near needed for them to win. They are just much better than the other teams. It's just the ref bias is so obvious that it hurts. Also Barça has been really "unlucky" with the calls, even if they still win most games.
Also the Oporto/Basilea for RM thing is just a joke, but ey I'm calling it.

So doesn't really look good for the german teams but this was to be expected. Schalke will get humiliated really hard by Real again, like 8-0 on aggregate. Leverkusen will definitly lose to Athletico, probably by a high amount aswell. Dortmund doesnt have what it takes to beat Juventus in there current shape i'm afraid...But well they would've only had a chance if they got Basel or Donezk.
Bayern on the other got a pretty easy job.
For the other games I think chelsea, barca, porto and arsenal will advance.

I think that BVB and B04 both have a 50-50 shot of progressing. With the winter break, there's a lot of opportunity for prolonged practice, players to rest/get back in form, players to recover from injuries, and transfers.
Schalke's royally fucked, no questions there.
I actually think that PSG is going to upset Chelsea. I also think that Monaco will upset Arsenal. Barca, Bayern, and RM will obviously win. The rest are coin-flips.

I am sorry for Juventus, but BVB is still the favourite for me

I honestly dont think that the winter break is going to change much. I've been waiting for Dortmund to bounce back all season long now but they always disappoint. Of course they always have a chance to advance and I'd appreciate that but 50-50? I dont think so, more like 20-80. Same goes for Leverkusen. They did nothing but disappoint this season so far that counts for Champions league aswell as Bundesliga. Sure they are still in 3rd place but thats just because everyone else played horrible aswell. I also see a maximum of 20-80 for them aswell also because they always choke in CL.
Chelsea is just too good at the moment, I think its not very likely that they will lose to PSG. And for monaco - arsenal, well arsenal sure gets alot of hate here but they still have some decent players and one mighty alexis and monaco is kinda bad. I mean they won their group with only 4 goals scored... they cant get away with that kind of play again.

20-80 is a little ridiculous. Reus will be back for the CL, and a month of training can definitely change a lot. Not only that, but a month off for training and new transfers can be huge. Leverkusen has been wildly inconsistent, not completely disappointing; they've shown that they can be terrifying up front, but they've also shown that they can be as toothless as BVB at times. At worst, I'd give it a 40-60. Neither of their opponents have looked 100% reliable this season either.
As for Chelsea/Arsenal, well, there's a reason I called those "upsets".

Every long winning streak involves some close calls and lucky wins. But when you win 20 games in a row, outscoring opponents 75-13 or whatever it was, I think you have to admit that Real is just really freaking good.

75-10 it's an absurd statistic. fair enough that it's the first half of the season and the latter half will feature tougher CL and cup games, but I wonder how long it's gonna go on for.. it's also funny how their first 6 games of the season (the only games before the 20 game win streak started) they went 1-1-4.

My thoughts:
Real vs Schalke: Yea better not talk about it i just hope that Schalke wont embarrass themselfes too much.
Bayern vs. Donezk: See Real vs. Schalke.
Basel vs. Porto: Basel looked really good in some parts of the game against Liverpool, i think they can take it.
Athletico vs. Leverkusen: I dont think we will see Leverkusen win a match that matters in my livetime. They might be the better team in theory but they just wont win.
Arsenal vs. Monaco: Its not that Arsenal looks great but Monaco is just a joke and even worse then Schalke in my opinion.
ManC vs. Barca: I was shocked after the second Bayern group game. I mean Bayern is good but they dominated ManC with 1 less men and beeing down 0:1 for 85 minutes. Barca might not be in the best shape but City just isnt good enough on a tactical level to compede with a good not Premier League team. Barca will take this easily.
Juventus vs. Dortmund: This is almost impossible to call for me. I dont know much about Juventus, they are 1 point away from Roma which says a lot about the current quality of Serie A so i dont expect wonders from them. No one knows what Dortmund will show up after the winter break. They have roster issues yes but we are still talking about the team that can destroy any midfield. If they can get healty and can get their shit together they will beat Juventus.
PSG vs. Chelsea This is tough but i would put my money on PSG. On paper Chelsea has the better roster but i think that PSG has the better matchups and that Chelsea might be a bit overrated at this point. Yea they are first and only lost 1 game in the league but 2 and 3 are ManC and ManU which let me doubt the quality of some of their opponents because in CL neither of them are or would be scary. Also Tactical good, ball orientated teams that can pass and slow down the game just destroy English teams on a regular bases. And PSG is right up there with Bayern and Barca.

haha ok I just read something that makes me kinda agree I guess
Out of all central defenders in La Liga, Pepe has caused the least free kicks and he hasn't gotten a single yellow card so far that's gotta be wrong xD I mean yeah it's caused by real madrid attacking so much more than they are defending and I guess they're not hit on counters that often but that still feels really wrong

Can face either; Fiorentina/Besiktas/Inter Milan ahaha Liverpool vs Besiktas...did someone say demba ba returns to anfield Would have preferred Liverpool or Celtic, both great matches where we at least stand a chance. Still Roma is going to be great, we certainly are no pushovers this season.
I am ecstatic with this draw! Not only will it be a fantastic set of games against a great opponent, I can actually go to the game in Rome which will be awesome! I think we have a decent enough chance to progress too (though big underdogs for sure on paper). Definitely looking forward to this.

I think we can get +400 page to this thread if we get Chelsea vs BVB, Chelsea vs Barcelona and Chelsea vs Bayern Munih for ro8, ro4 and finals :D

After last weekend, I'm actually hoping PSG will beat Chelsea in 2 really close games.

Wow niiiice man! I'll definitely be there for the home game, but the away game in Rome is something else. Lucky you

I'm surprised Man City are more than 2:1 dogs against Barcelona again, seems like value there. Books are saying it's like a 70-30 matchup.
But maybe I just underestimate the gap between the RM/Bayern/Barca quality tier of club and everyone else?
|
Nah, I don't think you're underestimating. Gap is probably 60-40, but who wants to bet on that?
