Eakins is improving - whether or not he is bad is up for debate. Personally, I think he does some dumb things and some pretty smart things. I think he is relatively progressive in his coaching style and open-minded but needs more experience before he can really be effective in the NHL. Getting him some help this season and getting rid of the dead-wood assistants has made a big difference.
The issue with the Oilers is at least 60% roster. I think it's fair to say that there have been a number of games this year where Eakins has gotten full-value (or at least close to full value) from his roster. And still, they have too many leaks.
I mean, it's hard not to blame this on MacTavish when you consider his pre-season thought process:
"Yo, MacT we have two actual NHL centers. Think that'll be good enough against the stacked western conference full of teams that are built completely up the middle?"
"No worries, Dallas, I plan on giving you a teenager with zero NHL experience and then I'll call up one of the career minor-leaguers. Problem solved!"
And as the season wears on, the Oilers' problems at center are glaringly obvious and the GM has stuck to plan A. Any competent manager could have moved, say, Jultz for some help up the middle. The lack of any kind of plan when this experiment inevitably ended in disaster is very Oilers.
This is the first year in like 7 or 8 where the Oilers have actually looked like an NHL team in more games than not. Still, it'd be nice if they'd win once in a while...

The great thing about moving Jultz for a center is that it would make our defense better too!

Atleast we are better than the Oakland Raiders?
I think?

Future is just as bleak though...

So Voracek now leads the league with 29 points in 19 games (5 more points than Giroux). I expected him to do well, but this is pretty crazy.

why the sharks starting their choke in November. Killing me in fantasy with their suckage

Flames may be losing, but at least I can take comfort in the fact that the Oilers are getting BTFO

Also Calgary came back and won

Perfect night then. I still dont understand how the Flame are doing so well, they should havee been right down there with the Oilers

Calgary has the leading norris candidate, and Brodie and Wideman are very solid as well. Edmonton doesn't even have a legitimate top pairing defenseman.

i'm glad that the nucks didn't get Eakins thank god for Torts

Edmonton's problems are more than just players/coach. The management is the biggest problem with the team. Theyve had what 2 #1 overall picks plus a handful of other top picks in the last 8 years and still cant figure out how to put a competitive team on the ice. Yes the West is a monster of a division and its definitely easier said than done but it really doesn't even seem like there's strides towards heading in the right direction.

Every time the Oilers lose, McDavid dies a little bit on the inside.

Aww Man
I loved Pat Quinn, those days when he was GM and Coach of the Leafs... It almost felt like we had a chance back then.
RIP Mr. Quinn
