Yeah I know why the league bent to the lynch mob. It's just dumb though. Precedent is far more important than appeasing people like that. People keep on mentioning how at a lot of jobs you'd be canned for simply getting arrested even if you were found not guilty, as if that's ok. It's really baffling. Players and people, even shotbags, should be afforded basic rights like that. It doesn't in any way impede giving him a lengthy suspension at the conclusion of the police or league investigation.
Personally I think there's a fair amount at play here for future cba. The pay would be fucking stupid to not appeal this and the league knows it. Now the NHL is hard on dv and the pa goes to bat for a suspected abuser poisoning their image just like the nflpa with ray rice. And now players being afforded the right to not be suspended indefinitely/a set punishment for DV cases becomes a bargaining chip in the next negotiation

NFL's poor handling of the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson issues cause a sponsor to withdraw their sponsorship of the NFL. The NHL does not want that to happen to them so anyone that gets in this kind of trouble is gonna get suspended indefinitely.
It's not fair but money rules the world and the NHL doesn't want to lose money

The league really needs to implement some sort of "Coach's Challenge" to review plays. Based on a strict and literal reading of the rules, the incidental contact interference by Abdelkader that nullified Datsyuk's goal in the DET-MON game tonight might have been called off anyway, but at least being able to review the play would go so far towards relieving some fan angst, I imagine.

Coaches Challenge isn't needed. They just need to take goalie interference calls on goals out of the officials hands and allow them to be reviewed.
Coaches Challenge is useless in the game of hockey. Challenging offsides doesn't get you anywhere,almost all penalties are purely the opinion of the referee and all goals are reviewed if the ref thinks something may have happened to prevent it. All we need to do is expand the use of video review to include goalie interference.

But then how is Burrows supposed to get any assists? (Which are later taken off of the stats sheets at NHL.com).

I find the whole Ray Rice situation odd. There has been litterly 100's of pro athletes who have been found guilty of what Rice did or worse, with basically no outcry about a league punishment. Put it on video tape and it's the biggest out cry since Ms. Jackson's nipple.

Obviously you can't challenge offsides but I think disallowed goals for interference or stuff like headshot or highs ticking double minors should be challengable. There really aren't many other things that would be challenge le I think
Nash is on fire ATM. It's great. He's scoring in all different scenarios too

also, what happened to the Islanders? All it takes is the promise of moving to a new arena and a new owner and suddenly they are kicking ass and taking names? What turned them around from being the Oilers of the East?

Trading for some real defense, signing some depth forwards, Tavares not being injured and Brock Nelson having a breakout season so far (although I don't expect it to keep up). Strome has been having a great season so far as well.

the isles got better pretty much across the board. none were studs, but they're all good depth players. halak is at least serviceable, and when you have competent 2nd and 3rd units, you can at least hang with some teams. esp in the east
also yeah wang handicapped snow with some financial things and what not.
