Kim Yuna so good Glad I managed to catch that.

I was wondering - do they zamboni the ice between performances? It seems it would take a long time to do, and if not, is it not unfair on the 12th + skater?

I didn't get to watch any of this, but other skaters fell and some how managed to be in the top 5. Mao must have made other mistakes. Did Mao not get a couple of her axels in?

^ Mao did bad cause she fell on her combination jump, looked a bit iffy on her 2nd jump although landed and doubled what shud have been a triple on her last jump... None of the last skaters failed more than 1 jump...
Out of all the skaters, I never would have guessed that it would end up being Kostner and the OTHER russian skater to be threathening Kim for the title... Wow...

Really? Olympic games are usually all about experience and handling pressure. Mao is bad in that and the Russian girl is 15? It's not surprising, really

It's disappointing that people only talk about the hyped up skaters or skaters whose primes have long gone. Mao Asada isn't in her prime anymore and she's retiring soon as well. Her jumps and height aren't what they used to be. She skates above average, can't contend with that, but she isn't the worlds best anymore (bronze at the 2013 worlds). Julia Lipnitskaia is really young as well and she's been overhyped due to her skate program during the team event, which is nothing like the Ladies Individual programs. People really overlooked Gracie Gold and Carolina Kostner. Kostner scored gold in 2012 world championships and silver at the 2013, both defeating Mao.

Kim Yuna tho....she's the queen.

Kostner did pretty bad in her previous two Olympics. 9th in Turino (home ice!) and 16th in Vancouver. She also did not have a stellar season, so her scoring less than a point behind Kim is completely surprising. Well deserved though! I would have placed her 2nd, but the point differential among the Top 3 is so small, it might as well be a 3-way tie.

^ The bigger joke to me is that russian skater's score... Her jumps were so technically more easy than Kim or Kostner's that how she managed to be so close to them is lolz... And don't tell me she was "artistically" THAT superior to both of them to make up for her easier jumps... Corrupt judges never appeared so obvious to me since the olympics in which that Canadian team was awarded gold along with that other pair team secondary to flagrant score manipulation... And so conveniently the other pair that won gold that year was a Russian team... Had to cheer up the Russian folks somehow after such a dismal day in hockey.... Oh russia...

There is no Russian judge on the panel today. The technical controller is Russian, but he doesn't assign GOE on elements. (although Lipnitskaia's flutz was not called lol). Sotnikova's combo jumps are fucking ginormous though, she should start practicing quads. She was also the only one to get a level 4 step sequence, but I can't tell the difference between a 3 and a 4.

Although my personal favorite didn't do well today, I'm glad Kim and Kostner delivered and showed that fetus how skating is done.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo Chairman Maaaoooooooo!

I was hoping for Mao, Yuna, and Kostner to all show Julia who is still boss. But even Yuna and Kostner can't erase this disaster from Mao.

Hard to find Yuna's performance video on youtube (anyone have a good quality version?), but there's a video on a facebook page here:

Ugh, she is so beautiful.

That's because her landing was average. 0 isn't a bad note.

Seriously what is it with you and Figure Skating. It's mainly considered as a women's sport and you all get so excited for it ...

The best part is reading the reddit even thread. After the norwegian smugness of yesterday's win in Biathlon and my subsequent sadness, I'm feasting on the tears of North Americans who think they are good at Boarder Cross !

Go Go France !
