Now I kinda want Mou to go back to Madrid. Three years in a row falling in semis, first year he is away they go boom straight to the finals (and destroying Bayern in the way), while Mou fails at semis yet again.

Plus you add that the best talent is sucked up at youth level by both Real and Barca as well.

If the spanish would allowed to have 2 national teams they would meet each other in the wc final. In fact if I were english/bpl fan I would be worried as to why my league relies on foreign talent instead of local.

England have been getting a lot worse since 1996 probably. They still do fine these days, but I would not be surprised if they will fall even deeper as soon as the Gerrard/Lampard generation retires. edit: Sorry, if we want to discuss that any further we should do that in the other thread.

Meanwhile, other Juve players were playing dangerously and didn't even get a warning or foul. Markovic did nothing at all there, Vucinic even came ahead and defended Markovic publicly. And I don't think Salvio's yellow was called for, but I'm not too sure of it right now, since I can't rewatch it.

And are there teams who regularly come 3rd-6th who can make a suprising championship run? Just a few hours ago I read that Portugal surpassed Italy in the 5-year ranking. Doesn't change anything regarding CL and EL spots but it still feels cool for this "small league" (or bad for big Serie A)

smr, Sporting has not been menacing in recent decades so the rivalries have become somewhat milder. Sporting vs Benfica is a local derby so it's a bigger game, especially since at the workplace and at schools there are always fans of both. I think right now Benfica vs Porto draws the most hatred as it is the battle for the dominance over PT football and since it also represents good vs evil. For some time Boavista* were able to compete for the title and actually won once. Braga was also in the competition for the title for a couple of years, but right now no smaller club comes close. Boavista was the last non-big-3 club to win a title (2000-01) since 1946. Other clubs don't have the fan-base and thus the money to sustain competitive squads. The only that possibly could come close is Vitória de Guimarães but they haven't had the competence in leadership for that. *Boavista was later found to be buying referees, and demoted to the lower leagues for that. Portugal being Portugal, a court later found that the crimes for which Boavista was sentenced had already lapsed (expired?) at the time of the ruling, so they were not valid. As a result, Boavista will play again in the first league next year. Wonderful Cinderella story if Cinderella were actually a crook.

We are a football country, only this sport matters (it's way too much of course) so we follow bundesliga, la liga, premier league and Serie A and of course we know and follow those leagues and they are better. But it's fun when we can kick their asses hehe :D We are also a small country so when our national team beats someone noteworthy we will cherish that moment! I hate Porto(much more) and Sporting but when they win in UEFA i do get proud because it's so hard to compete! I'm fine if we are the 5th/6th best league in terms of results.. because if you check the money spend and won we are like the 10th league or even worse It's like: - England - Spain - German - Italian - French - Turkey - Russian - PORTUGAL so it's nice Our league is only 3 teams - Benfica/33 titles), Porto(27) and Sporting(17) and the only other winners are Belenenses(1) and Boavista(1)!

Sounds a lot like the Netherlands. With Ajax and PSV in the Benfica and Porto roles and Feyenoord like Sporting. We're just terrible in Europe nowadays.

Our league is kinda terrible though, we can't attract top players, they all come after they got old. We can't produce talent like Portugal and Netherlands either. We also draw less viewers than bundesliga 2.

You could add that to the discussion if its the right thing that Guardiola defends corners in a zone coverage.

Honestly the only goal that i can remember was the 1:0 against real, which was so perfectly executed that the defensive system didn´t matter. I think the reason Pep plays it is that you can do it consistantly with every lineup. If he plays with Mandzukic, Dante, Boateng and Martinez you could defend men to men but with "small ball" with only one or two of them you couldn´t. So a zone coverage needs less time to practice.
