We have again a bigger brother (Real, Bayern) vs the younger brother (AM, BVB) with both playing counterattacking football. Last year's finals was just awesome. I hope for a repeat! =)

Atletico played a fantastic game though. Especially once the 2-1 was scored they really bossed play and had some beautiful football to boot. I expected a dour game between these sides but was pleasantly surprised. They deserve to be in the final. Simeone has really done a great job, essentially taking a team of Everton's standards to brink of a double, really impressive. Mourinho meanwhile has had a disappointing season with Chelsea ultimately. He likes to pretend he has an inadequate squad and the media laps this up heartily, but the truth is, Chelsea have fantastic players and he has not achieved enough with them. After his failures in Madrid he is not looking too rosy all of a sudden.

They are clearly hurting for a world class striker. Even today it seemed like chances were there for Eto'o to hit first time and he just has to take one extra touch. Then it gets blocked easily. I still feel like holding on to Lukaku would have been better for Chelsea season, though perhaps not Lukaku's long-term development.

I don't think Chelsea's squad is as good as Bayern's but it's still pretty damn good. His midfield and defense are world class. Obviously his strikers aren't tip top, but they are not nearly as bad as Jose likes to pretend. Eto'o is for the most part still a fantastic striker but he is too unreliable with injuries. Aside from him, Jose never gave Ba a real chance which has hurt Chelsea and of course Lukaku is on loan when Jose knew strikers could be an issue this season. Mostly though, I think players like Hazard, Willian, Oscar, Matic offer an incredible midfield capable of both great creativity as well as defensive confidence. Their brilliance has been marginalized this season by Mourinho. It's not that he's done just horribly, it's that he could do so much more. He clearly can motivate his players like no one else because I always see Chelsea fight to the very end, but in footballing terms, he leaves much to be desired and I think that's cost him this year. Pep for that matter has also failed this year relative to expectations. He won the Bundesliga at a walk and likely will win the German cup but his performance in the QF and SF of the UCL were lacking. He too needs to asses his tactics in the summer to see if it suits his players. If it does then he needs to re-motivate his players and make them believe.

It's Mourinho2 Its simple, they dont pretend like they are better than everyone else, they are pragmatic, they also dont atleast on paper have a squad that are world beaters that they are turning into To see a team grow like that (just like Dortmund) is remarkable regardless of how they do it. Atletiocs entire squad probably costs less than Chelseas starting 11 The sad part will be seeing it get picked to pieces. And they arent really masters of the 1-0 either they can rip you a new asshole if you arent solid defensively. You have to apprecaite this squad because this is a team that lost Falcao and then outperformed what they did last year. Technically 2 years ago this team was no better than the Europa league squads of Valencia or Bilbao. On May 01 2014 09:03 Zexion wrote: Oh, please stop that bullshit. He too needs to asses his tactics in the summer to see if it suits his players. If it does then he needs to re-motivate his players and make them believe. If you compare Chelsea's strikers with any team with a comparable or better performance this year (I'd basically include real madrid bayern manchester city liverpool atletico barcelona PSG mebbe dortmund), they fall laughably short. I guess with the exception of bayern but bayern is the one team with a significantly stronger squad outside the striker department :D Pep and Mourinho have both had fine first seasons. Chelsea was expected to be title contenders in the PL - and it's still within range with 2 matches to go. They were expected to do well in the CL - they got to the semi final. Bayern had like 3 bad and important games all season, and many great ones, it just looks bad next to an impossibly good season. Personally I don't really understand the pep signing (not because I think he is bad by any stretch of imagination, just that it's really weird to drop someone after trebling), but his results have certainly been satisfactory. And Chelsea - they've been good, and Mourinho's teams are always better in season 2. Get Atletico's Costa and you'd be looking at a pretty complete team.

The big difference though is in the quality of squads. I don't think Atletico has an amazing team individually, but as a team they are drilled brilliantly and are very organized. They are also clearly very comfortable playing with each other which allows for some great interplay between then. Chelsea have a lot more to work with in their team on paper but they played like underdogs scrapping for a win.

LvG has a mixed record of course, being successful at Ajax, Az, Barcelona 1, Bayern, Netherlands 2, but failing miserably at Netherlands 1, Barcelona 2. I think he can provide United with a good couple of years and I predict he will make top 4 next season competing for the title.
