The commentators say that it's because they can't handle the "creativity" of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man City's midfields, but that's just a buzzword. Every team has creativity in their midfield. What they can't handle is getting pressed high up the pitch. If you look at the goals from those games, the build-up for nearly all of them starts with someone in Arsenal's midfield getting isolated, then either getting tackled or making a bad pass (usually under pressure) to concede possession. And because of the high line that they play, the teams have an easy time getting behind Arsenal's defense, especially because all of those teams have incredibly fast players (Schuerrle was so devastating today, and it was Raheem Sterling who was doing the damage for Liverpool). I think Wenger should have played Flamini and Arteta in this match, but I guess he didn't want any of Ox/Podolski/Rosicky/Cazorla on the bench, so he sacrificed Flamini (again). | ||
