Sorry but Schalke isnt really a competitor. Of course they want to buy young, potential worldclass players. And of course their first target are players from the Bundesliga because they adapted to the league and country. They are less of a risk than players from other leagues. And players from Premier League or Primera Division are also hard to sign. Dortmund does the same. And I hate people like Watzke who trashtalk against Bayern that they buy out their competition and want to destroy them. Hes just a hypocrite. Dortmund bought Reus and Gündogan from Gladbach and Nürnberg, for example and they are most likely gonna buy Ramos, Volland or someone else now.

Schalke are the third team in germany financially and until very recently were the second. For them to not be a competitor is exactly the problem with your league. It's pretty much Bayern against themselves and only Dortmund recently put up a real fight. Yet despite their great football you could still argue that Bayern were missing around.

It's the same as the TV rights in Spain where Barcelona and Real Madrid get so much of it. It hollows out the league in the long run and it's bad for them as well. First off i am not sure about the Draxler rumor, his position doesn´t really exists in a Guardiola team. And they already have like 5 world class guys that can replace Ribery/Robben. Would be better they spend that money on Kroos. Second i dont think Bayern are the ones to blame for the lack of competition. If you take them away Bundesliga is really close right now. The problem is more that the big market teams in germany tend to suck hard. Lets have a look at place 2 to 5 right now: Dortmund Leverkusen Schalke Wolfsburg Leverkusen and Wolfsburg are a bit different because most of their money comes from a single companny (Bayer and VW) but here are the numbers of people that life in this region/city and what their "rank" is in germany (data from 2012): 7. Dortmund (572.087) 25. Gelsenkirchen (Schalke, 257.607) 46. Leverkusen (159.926) 59. Wolfsburg (121.758) So your avarage population of 4 of your 5 best teams is not even 250.000 people and 3 of this teams (Dortmund, Schalke and Leverkusen) are in an are of around 80 kilometers. This is a problem because it makes it harder for them to aquire first good players (Leverkusen is like Manchester in terms of industrialisation, believe me this city sucks) and more importantly local sponsors besides the main sponsors. This is very problematic in a league that is constantly advertising itself with "we dont want foreign guys to take over the clubs" and "we hate abramovich and the guys from dubai or qatar". So if i had to "blame" someone for the lack of competition for Bayern right now i wold go with: HSV Hamburg (2. with 1.734.272, also the second richest big city after Munich) 1. FC Köln (Cologne, 3. with 1.024.373) Stuttgart (6. 597.939) Berlin (!!! 1. 3.375.222) In terms of money 3 of them are in the top 15 richest citys in germany, the first of the citys mentioned above is Leverkusen on place 24. /Edit says this numbers on the money are a bit old € wise but i dont think it changed that much. Hamburg is a running gag right now there is the joke around that they have to buy a new video wall for showing the goals when Bayern arrives because the current one cant display numbers over 99. You think they are only bad this season? Nope: In the time Alex Ferguson coached ManU they had 25 coaches. 25. And like over 9000 management people. 1. FC Köln is stuck in league 2, they come up all 3 or 4 years but are gone fast usually. Stuttgart is constant and very successful in beeing mediocre with fantastic first half seasons leading into horrible second halfs (can be fliped around). And Berlin, well they have a ok season now but a couple of years ago they almost went to the 3. league which would have mend at this time that the German Bundesliga would be the only league on the planet without a profesional team located in their capital (all teams below league 1 and 2 are mentiond "amateurs"). So if i would want to blame someone for boring Bundesliga and every team is beeing shrinked international with the exception of Bayern and Dortmund i would go with these guys because they have the potential of beeing "good" at least but they just suck hard the last 20 years on a management level and THATS the reason Bayern is like 10 to 20 years ahead of everybody in terms of money, strukture and management.

Bundesliga used to be very good up until two years ago when Bayern lost everything for the second time and decided to just buy everything and everyone. They are very bad losers lol Now it's worse than the Scottish League Why woudnt they use their money to buy new players who improve their lineup? Who can blame them? Every club does that. No club in this world would say: "Well lets keep the league interesting and stop investing in new, promising players". Bayern had to work for their status, its not like some rich sheik came around and threw money at them, they built it up themselves and they still do. Its Dortmund, Leverkusen and Schalkes fault that they cant keep up.

That doesn't mean it isn't a short sighted policy for the league in the long run and that I have to like it. I could make the same argument in the Spanish league. It's Valencia's and Villareals fault that they can't keep up. The thing is that the way it's set up now makes it incredibly hard for these teams to catch up.

Bayern are beyond the point of improving their lineup, with Draxler and Lewandowski they can field a C team and still beat everyone. Besides a monopoly is generally a company performing above and beyond everyone, but it still considered bad practice because it's harmful for competition. Competition being something that should be even more important in a game of sport.

Its Dortmund, Leverkusen and Schalkes fault that they cant keep up. Said by the Bayern Fanboy /facepalm. Bayern buys players to hurt their opponents since 40 years. They killed Bremen and Leverkusen in the early 2000s (Basler, Klose, Ismael, Gomez, Elber, Lucio, Ze Roberto, Ballack) and now they did the same with Dortmund. What Bayern does is just a disgrace for the Bundesliga. Not even Barca or Real are that ruthless and just buy players to weaken their opponents.
