why? cause he becomes immortal with the award
Exactly. Awards don't necessarily make one player better than the other, but awards insure that players are remembered in history. Think back to the discussion about Eusebio last week. Obviously, he's one of the greatest to have ever played the game, but he isn't remembered in the same vein as players like Pele and Maradona because he didn't win the World Cup. Just like how we can remember who won previous Ballon d'Or awards, but not the runners-up.
Fifty years from now we won't remember that players like Wesley Sneijder and Franck Ribery may or may not have deserved to win the award, we'll remember that it was won by Messi/Ronaldo/whoever else wins the award.
"When you bring me to Dortmund?" "I'd have to sell the whole team." "No...I come for free."

It didn't look very serious at all. Just a ball in the face, hurts but rarely does any damage. But the amount of time he's been down is starting to get a bit worrying.

its single best player award, not most trophies award
sure but in baseball for example, which is the only sport that rivals football in cultural history, the MVP award is almost never given to a player who played on a losing team. When the competition for the award is very close, it makes sense to judge how well their teams played as opposed to further analyzing their individual contribution, especially in football where stats mean very little compared to other major sports.
