It seems like both teams are a ragtag band of millionaires without any system to fall back on. well that's how most games between good technical teams go - you need to pass your way into the net but that doesn't work when all 10 players from the opposing team are in their third generally everyone plays counterattacking football these days which isn't great to watch, really What. YOu are mental. COunter attacking football ie the way that RM and Bayern play is awesome. Uhh Real and Bayern dont play counter attacking football.. They are just very good at it when the opportunity presents itself, which is often enough, especially when you have the pace they do upfront, its a pretty straightforward correlation.. Thats alot different from playing a style that relies inherently on the counter. Both RM and Munich can pass your socks off when they are playing well. Both teams were pretty conservative the 20 odd minutes I was watching. Its all very nice that you have players tracking back and all but you dont score goals tracking back..
The style RM, Bayern and Man U play is very similar tbh. It seems that the common denominator in making their styles look lame is the one and only chelsea

So Monterrey has a new manager.

He should have hit him, the guy was an absolute thug all night. That was after he 2 foot leg-breaker tackled from behind in an earlier foul. That one guy should have been sent off a couple times.

It's ironic seeing how the result of his piss poor play resulted in Seattle scoring the game winning goal.
"He's the best player in MLS?" Kah said. "If he's the best…I've seen much, much better in Europe."

This guy...
That game overall just reminded me why I don't usually watch MLS. You have a handful of players with quality in the game (Rosales, Dempsey, Valeri) but they are just sprinkled around and they are just surrounded by total clods with no touch who don't even belong on the same field. Portland's thuggish and skill-less defense really turned me off so much. Shame cause I like some of their team--Nagbe looked great and like he's really coming around.

So Mourinho has made a statement that Juan Mata is part of his plans, yet the media continue to speculate on his departure. Mourinho has made it clear he doesn't like Torres, but has he ever said anything bad about Mata? So weird that a player of Mata's quality along with statements by the club seem to do nothing to deter media from thinking he will leave Chelsea.
|
Martinez isn't playing for bayern and some bayern official, can't remember who, said that he came back from the national team in a really bad state and blaimed the Spanish for that. Maybe it's the same for Mata.

Yeah that's what I think as well. The spanish players have basically not had a moment's of rest since the end of last season.

Arsenal are being linked with Ajax's Toby Alderweireld (kinda surprised they weren't sooner). I'd love if the club can sign him. Yeah, he's not world class or anything, but he doesn't need to be, because he'll be fourth choice, third choice at best if someone gets injured or if Vermaelen can't regain his form. Plus he can play right back if needed.
And he only has one year left on his contract, so he won't be super expensive (IIRC, Norwich's offer for him was like 8m Euros, which is pretty cheap).
Speaking of Ajax players with one year left on their contract, since Wenger seems to want to sign an attacking midfielder, I really wish he'd try to sign Christian Eriksen
Edit: Ashley Cole really needs to be given a yellow card for this:

Meh Phil Jones does randomly swing his right arm. No doubt Cole was looking for a pen but it's not as egregious as a dive where there is NO contact whatsoever.

By the way did anyone else notice in the Man U v Chelsea match how good both JT and Rio were? Proper coordination of defence skills + covering ability. Both are just incredible assets, I'm please Mou has played JT and Lamps for three straight games.
Actually also Evra + Cole and also Valencia. All were really good in defence and played awesomely. Really impressive displays from all the players.

I would be very surprised if Eriksen doesn't leave this transfer window though. I'm pretty sure Tottenham are keeping an eye on him.

It was a blatant dive, the "contact" was way before. Cole trying to delay his fall until he was clearly in the penalty area makes it even worse, definite yellow card. He basically hoped Phil Jones was still nearby but Jones was too slow lol.

lol yeah, Jones really is actually malcoordinated when it comes down to it. He can easily be bamboozled by defenders. The manager has to deploy him carefully. Against some players he's great but against nifty ones he can be really caught out. Keep him well away from Messi lol. He seems to have a good defensive brain for general attack movement though. I'm still amazed Fergie said he would grow into being the best player he had ever coached.

Meh, there was contact though and it wasn't legal contact - granted it wasn't enough to take him down. Maybe should be a yellow because he did inexplicably take a while to go down, but it's nothing like the Ashley Young dives of 2 years ago where he would literally kick the defender's leg in order to create contact.
|
i actually think ashley cole talked to the referee after this episode, asking him to give a yellow for dive if it's not a penalty. i can't read his lips, but i'm sure he showed imagined yellow card while talking to atkinson
|
Yeah I think I remember the commentator saying that. He was really angry that it wasn't a pen but then again it is the sort of thing that one might to do make a dive look 'authentic' lol. In general Ashley is really really good at skipping past players and producing pens, more often than not he doesn't dive.
