Please people, stop calling the Spurs old. By average, the Heat are an older team. Only 2 of players that we rely on are old, Manu and Tim. And in recent years, we rely much less on Manu. This is not the team where we were trying to plug-in role players with the likes of Kurt Thomas and the like.

As for predictions, being a Spur fan forever, I hope and feel the Spurs can win in 6; winning Game 2 in Miami and probably losing Game 4 or 5 at home.

However the games play out, I expect them to be entertaining. Tim, Tiago, and Diaw holding in check Bosh and Co. down low and locking down D-Wade (who I will assume will still be a bit hobbled) and attempting to minimize LeBron as much as possible with Leonard and Green. This coupled with TP being able to penetrate and create open shots for our shooters, I feel confident in our chances.

The raw age comparison is problematic because while the Heat's average age (adjusted by minute) is older, the players they count on to do most of the work are in their prime. Meanwhile 2/3 of the Spurs big 3 are older than 35.

So yes, the Heat are the older team, but the Heat's old guys just have to hit open 3's and defend a little. The Spurs' old guys have to carry a lot more weight.

I will agree with you (Jibba) that using that raw comparison is probably not the best way to approach the issue. But I would argue that the Spurs do not rely on Manu as a third option. More, the Spurs have moved to a Big 2 and Manu's role from the old Big 3 has been distributed between him, Leonard, and Green (at least in the playoffs).

I hope Leonard woke up today knowing he is in for 2 weeks of hell coming up.

And I would say Ginobli is still in the big 3 tho he hasn't been the same player. The Spurs are more of a P&R team now as opposed to when they won their last ship. He is still a guy that can light it up at any random time for a nice run, though he does act more as a distributor now though when he gets into the paint. Pretty much their backup PG.

I would kind of love to see Karl in LA and Sloan in Denver.

This. Giving equal weight to everyone in terms of age doesn't make sense to me when it's usually 2-3 players who really make up the core of a team. The heat could trade their older players and get new players and it wouldn't make too much of a difference to their team.

And I just found out yesterday that Tim Duncan is 37 years old. Jesus, playing at that level at that age is ridiculous.

Heat in 6. Been waiting for this series all year with both teams going full throttle. Going to be amazing.

The NBA picks the worst sponsorship movies. Now we have 2 weeks of hearing about this dumb Channing Tatum/Jamie Foxx movie.

Man, ESPN3 is so bad. 1 bar video quality with 25mbps down. They're going to force me to use an alternative source. ;/

What I'm most interested in seeing tonight is Pops game plan. The best coach in the league had 10 days and 3 games to watch and study the Heat. I expect him to come out with a really solid game plan (even though they may be rusty in the first half).

As a Spurs fan I'll be very concerned if the Spurs lose this game. I expect Pops best punch this game and if they lose and have to go back to the drawing board already, that's not a good start.

Edit: Bill Simmons is picking the Heat. Spurs are a lock.

Holy shit, can't believe the Nuggets canned Karl. I can understand the criticisms but he overachieved with that Denver team.

EOY and COY to nothing. Kroenke's gonna have a lot to answer for if Denver starts to slide now.

I know this is the Finals thread but for the sake of keeping discussion consolidated:

I understand the criticisms of Karl, but that seems pretty drastic given the coaching pool/vacancies. Losing Gallo was more important than they think.

Also, it's crazy how often Coach of the Year gets fired.

Uh... guess we're going to see a trade.

George has to play SF on that team. I don't know what this means for Granger (whether he can play SG) but the Pacers don't want to muck around with PG's development for the sake of placating Granger.

Apparently Karl asked for an extension, which is something the Nuggets didn't feel like giving in light of the playoff loss. They said no to his extension. I don't think they went into this offeseason planning on firing him; it just turned out this way.

On topic: Spurs will take game one or two in Miami. I think their fresher legs will play a role in the early games.
