Finally that game is over. Usually by triple OT I start thinking the NHL needs to not play 5-5 for OT in playoffs just so we are not there for 110+ minutes of hockey
In Hearthstone we pray to RNGesus. When Yogg-Saron hits the field, RNGod gets to work

Good game, Chicago already doubled the Pen's scoring output from the previous series. Boston probably realized that Western conference teams actually know how to play the tough game, probably a little bit shocked that when they hit people they get hit back instead of wilt like the Penaucks like to do.

This is the playoffs, not catering to people who cannot handle A LOT OF HOCKEY.

I'm pretty indifferent as to who wins the SC but I'm slightly leaning towards the Bruins aaaannnnd they lose. Almost in Leafs fashion as well, except this one went a couple more extra OTs.

This is my first year really watching hockey in the playoffs. And every game I have caught live the team I cheer for has lost. Looks like I kept the curse alive as the Bruins blow it.

no way man i love stuff like that. Thank god for them it is the finals and not earlier in the playoffs. Longer layoffs.

that was such a great game. ill be fine with either team winning tbh. hawks have a lot of players i like, and i love the b's style

so i missed it but shero had a presser, gave bylsma a 2 year extension, and said maf is sticking around lol

i can see giving bylsma anothener year or two, but man you gotta be rid of maf then at least. i dont see how you can keep that same team intact after that playoff disaster

Found an awesome video. Larry Robinson smacks around Dave Schultz, and then drinks a beer

them two fighting starts at about 2:22. Robinson takes a fan's beer at 5:05 rofl.

Well shit,

Big changes are already happening in the Leafs organization. Not only do we lose Dallas Eakins, but Leo Komarov is going to the KHL next season and Jim Ralph has been let go as color commentator.

Malkin with a monster contract extension but it doesn't kick in until 2014. 9.5 Million avg with a 10 million signing bonus :O

Guess Shero is going to be giving Vokoun another 2 year extension too? Maybe treat him like a baseball closer, except by closer I mean palyoff starting goalie.

Dunno why the Pens are giving Malkin such a massive contract extension when its pretty obvious the team needs to upgrade their defense goaltending and possibly secondary scoring. Its totally understandable why theyre locking him up, but I dont think that should have been the biggest priority for them

It can be difficult to negotiate during the season, and it gives PIT the knowledge of their roster going forward. There are fewer question marks for Shero to juggle, and keeping Malkin has to happen at some point. Again, it doesn't kick in until 2014, which is when he would have been a free agent. Also, when you have a team that spends about $19M on two players, you cannot address all those needs as other teams would. You have to build smartly through the draft and bring up players to complement the stars. The issue going forward is really whether they can resign Letang.

Welp the Penguins are what they are now, I guess I just gotta roll with it and have fun with them producing entertaining and wild but ultimately crappy sideshow hockey. Especially if Letang stays around too. This year I felt like they could be insiders for the cup but I won't get fooled by that again, maybe we can nab one coming up one of the years that it's a crapshoot I guess.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion man

The Pens kind of remind me of the Senators of the mid 2000s when Heatley wasnt a cancer and Alfredson was epic and all that. They had essentially 3 really strong players that were soaking up the vast bulk of the cap hit and then had razor as their goalie and questionable defense and secondary scoring. That team made it to the Stanley Cup final before a much more better balanced team crushed them and in the East having 3 good players is often enough since its such a weak conference if you exclude Boston. O well, the dominance of Western style hockey will continue.

I don't think its so much the Western style thats dominating as more the Western teams are play a more complete game with deeper teams right now. Chicago has a young team theyve built up after being absolutely terrible for so long. Same thing to an extent with the Kings, Jackets and Avs even if the Jackets and Avs havent hit their stride quite yet. Theres more teams that are competitive and fighting for a playoff spot compared to the East and when the playoffs come around the Western teams just seem to have a little step on their next gear compared to the Eastern teams that had an easier time getting into the playoffs. I may be wrong but its how I've observed things the last few years

I think in the West there is a trend towards a more physical yet turtly game. I'd say Chicago is actually a standout against that style, because of the way their team got cobbled together they are more like the Red Wings before Ken Holland went awol and play a puck possesion game. But everyone else: Kings, Blues, Wings and even SJ rely on large guys, going fast, mobbing the incoming puck carrier, and an aggressive forecheck. Which is what I mean Western style. In the East, you dont really see that many teams do that except Boston.

Would really have to disagree with you there. Flyers, Hurricanes, Canadiens, and Senators all play an aggressive forecheck and rely on team speed to play defense. It's very difficult to say what divides the conferences in terms of style. The Bruins are, at least this year, the only team in the East that is doing that style properly.

If it were me, you do Malkin as a no brainer, do the same for letang, and punt maf to the highway. take that money and the money you save no resigning coattail riders like Iggy Morrow Dupuis (all of whom would struggle to crack 30-40 pts not on that team these days) and you suddenly have cap space to get under the drop this year and find a couple decent ufas.

letang is too good in other ways to let go. hes a little retarded in his own end but a stud on the breakout and offense. maf just generally blows.
