The current rumor is that United will move on Garay and Matic, and that worries me.... Sadly Garay has a 20M release clause so I guess that's a done deal... But Matic has a 45M clause so i'm hoping he stays at least another year. | ||

Ahh yeah Garay looks a good player. Shame about Gaitan he looked ok vs Chelsea in the champions league last season. | ||

If he gets as good as Rui Costa as you just said then, wow. Costa days where when i really enjoyed watching Portuguese national team, he was one of the rocks of the international team. If he becomes as good as that...well xD | ||

We'll see about the future. Btw, United is also linked with James Rodriguez from Porto. So if they are to sign a winger that plays in the portuguese league, it will probably be James. | ||

Benfica probably needs to sell players to stay afloat, so this summer it'll be Garay + one out of Gaitan, Matic, Rodrigo or Salvio. Personally I'd prefer selling Gaitan. EDIT: Matic came in the David Luiz deal (Luiz to Chelsea, Matic + €25M to Benfica). If you'd ask me to choose who I'd prefer in Benfica right now between Luiz or Matic, I'd say Matic. | ||

The problem is that the Portuguese League is not very attractive commercially.. And we are, indeed, a poor country... Altough both clubs have annual budgets in the order of 60 to 80M € (something similar to wigan or some low league English teams), the revenue is pretty small... For instance, Benfica just played Leverkusen, Bordeaux and Newcastle in the Europa League. All of this 3 teams have bigger annual budgets than Benfica... With leverkusen and newcastle having more than double of the Benfica budget... The problem is that in Portugal there isn't a lot of money... Benfica received in the last 10 seasons 8M€/year for television revenue... And we all know that this should be a big part of a club's revenue... A team that gets relegated in the spannish league gets something between 15 to 25M of television. Blackburn Rovers and Wolves that were relegated last year got something like 45M€. Benfica got 8M... I think that says everything about the financial health of portuguese clubs. For the next year, Benfica didn't sell their rights and will self transmit their home games on the Club Channel, that will become Pay TV. We also acquired the rights for the English Premier League, so let's see how that goes  Sorry for my English | ||

But oh right, they have big debts xD Pretty bad revenue causes it which i guess is understandable, but i know in turns of Porto, not only player sales earning them big $$, but AVB and Mourinho earnt the club like 50million Euros didn't it? So im quite surprised at that. But yeah i guess if the country is poor economically it doesn't have the huge $$ to invest into the sporting TV rights >.< Unlucky for the clubs, because as you say, the teams Benfica have beaten this year in the Europa shows they are a successful and good team. They are (imo) favorites for the Fenebache game aswell, so thats another final for a Portuguese team in the Europa League. Hopefully it improves, you have like the best scouts in world football with the talent Benfica and Porto pick up each year xD | ||
