I can see that I'm still jumping forward because my elbows are having a hard time understanding how to relax. Here are 3 videos from different angles. Can I please get some advice for other stuff I'm doing wrong? (I'd probably starve as a cameraman... couldn't find a good place to put my phone at all) + Show Spoiler + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeVRqhK4R0A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9Q-iagCLHA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uykRqP5ae0k Two things i do to relax before i lift are close my eyes and exhale. I'll often snatch up to ~90% with my eyes closed until i have the bar overhead. I usually exhale before lighter reps because it helps me relax. heavier ones i obv need to inhale for inner abdominal pressure. IMO not much point in doing hang power snatches, i'd go for full snatches and really work on getting your hips through and then pulling yourself under. It doesnt look bad right now it just could be a lot smoother. I'm not sure how i'd describe it other than you're jumping too much too long which is leading to your mildly awkward looking power snatch.. You need to be thinking about getting yourself under the bar before you even finish your pull but still manage to finish your pull though. It's difficult but it just takes a lot of practice to get your nervous system to start working more efficiently. Not bad though, keep it up! If you look at this vid of dimsum you can kinda see what i'm trying to say. It's a hang clean instead of a hang snatch but same concept. Notice how his pull translates seemlessly into getting under the bar. Try to ignore the sexy shoes/muscles.

I've done squats for a few years but I used to be a rower. I did: 5r ~100kg, wait 10s 12r ~80kg, wait 10s 25 reps with ~17.5kg dumbells in each hand, and a ~8cm board under the heels Wait 2 minutes and repeat again an additional 3 times. I did squats like this for a long time. Along with 16km sessions on the machines a few times a week I've just gotten a ton of slow twitch. My max squat isn't that high but I can do a lot of reps :l Now I'm finding it less than ideal. For deadlift I've always just done 5 sets of 5-8 reps. Should I start doing 8 x 3 or something? Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Okay, I have a week off of school coming up and it's time for some unrushed lifting sessions =D I took the advice you gave me decaf and did some more snatches from the hang. While the elbows certainly don't feel as weird, I've discovered my position at the bottom of the hole is a tad wobbly. I have a pair of Romaleo 2s coming but I feel like those probably aren't the answer to my problem. Also, I'm starting to understand what is meant by speed under the bar after watching myself. The rest of this month will be working on those problems. I think my next big goal will be to develop a smooth first and second pull. I have issues wrapping my mind over what happens from below to above the knee but that will be a March thing. I took two more videos. Could I please have some more help and advice for what I can improve upon? As always, I appreciate it. + Show Spoiler + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz9ecYFOsss

Keep working on your form it will get better! Try not to rush everything. Catch the bar in the hole and stabilize first, then recover. Also hold the bar at the top of the lift. You don't want to develop bad habits.

1. I started out with SL, however I didn't like barbell rows so eventually I switched to weighted pull-ups. I read SS and it said to do power cleans over barbell rows. Is Power cleans a beastly exercise for the back? 2. How well does Clean&Jerks/ snatches carry over with doing my usual big exercises like squats, deadlifts etc? Is it too much to combine strength training as I am now and Olympic lifting? In fact, I'm going to be adding a lot of hypertrophy exercises in 3-6+ months so this is an important question for me. 3. I'm going to be heading back into boxing in the future, is Olympic lifting really good for that? Also any tips you want to add is much appreciated, I apologize in advance if you get these same questions a lot! ![]()

It raised my max dl from 485 to 525 pounds over time without ever actually training deadlifts. squatting is part of olympic lifting, so yeah. You can incorporate olympic lifting into your training but if you want to compete its hard to work hypertrophy in too. olympic lifting is power training, and strength is part of power. 3) I imagine so. Its great for your shoulders/back/core so that should help. It's largely about power legs and hips which i imagine helps a lot with footwork/incorporating your body into the punch.
