I wish I could play rugby sooooooo badly. All we have around here is pickup football.
I was thinking about rugby for a second today.
Problem is back in the day I used to play baseball back in the day. I was good for my age, then got hit in the head with a baseball bat and quit. Became a computer nerd for awhile and lost any athletic ability. Now I become anxious when I play sports because, while lifting has started to get me somewhat athletic, previous experiences still screw with me. So basically no confidence and no one to teach me

No MMA though. Not a fan.
In my personal appearnce you don't really ever lose athletic talent. You might not be where you used to be, but athletes are almost always athletes(to some degree). I know guys that wont play a sport for a year and then pick it right back up where they left off. Give it a shot and see how it goes.
@hurricane, there's literally rugby everywhere! i'm sure you can find a club near you
1. Have arms as long as the rest of your body. Deadlifts are good for this, they will stretch your arms out. 2. Travel. Five steps should do it, if you can make it four you're ready to go pro. NBA officials will be good for this. 3. Have Lazy Defenders. NBA players will be good for this, as they are probably too busy counting money to really pay attention to the game. 4. Win. Having Tiger Blood is good for this, it will allow you to be bi-winning.
GL HF. - Your friendly college basketball fan, who feels superiority over the NBA because of the quality of games.
I've been playing some bball with my classmates. I'm TERRIBLE at shooting but i'm like super good at defense since I'm relatively athletic. I pretty much only pass and steal the ball and get rebounds. It's hilarious.

Well then maybe I just wasn't athletic. But if you were as out of shape as I was (5'10 or less back then and a little bit over 200 pounds), it is very hard to be able to last long enough to show any. And then lacking confidence is another big thing.
But who knows :D My real father got full rides to college for basketball, baseball, and football. So maybe I have a little bit of that. Haha. I don't really care to be honest, I just want to get involved in something else while still lifting.
Edit: Something besides basketball. Good lord do I hate basketball. lol
did 5 singles c&j today. when I cam home I realised I should have done 10 oh well also did some snatch pulls and hang snatches from the knee. think I'm understanding the oly lifts better each time! finished up with some front squats (up to 100kg for a set of 3), some ab work and plyometric stuff which I always feel weird doing lol ^^
So anyone got a nice upper/lower body 4-day split? My brother refuses to try a full body workout because "the pros" at a swedish misc forum aren't doing so. He's not that much of a beginner, he can squat 110 kg x5 and DL 125 kg so maybe a 4-day split wont be that bad for him at all >_>
Wow tried some yoga today for the first time in a few months. I mainly feel like I need to open up my hips a lot especially my flexors and adductors since I've let those areas slip in mobility work. Or at least it feels like I did. But as it turns out I'm pretty much just as flexible as I always was and probably even more so in certain areas like hammies and glutes.
However, my overall ability to do any sort of isometric lunges has been shredded to nothing right now. Like 3 minutes into crescent and the warrior sequence my flexors and quads were burned out.
Strange, since I have the same or more flexibility in most areas, but it just feels tighter and more shitty when I do it. Even when I get through like half of my range in a stretch. What to make of it?

1. reset 20% and go up 1 or 2kg every session 2. eat a lot (but not just before the workout) 3. watch Ripp's videos http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Press_Videos 4. put some good (and fast) music in your mp3 player 5. tighten all your muscles specially your abs 6. turn on BEAST MODE 7. ??? 8. profit

And rage.
Definitely, rage when in need. I always, always, scream tL HEALTH AND FITNESS at my last rep of my last set. Specially DL.
Used some sort of machine with bands to do squatlike motion. Suspiciously like a smith machine, but horizontal. But the platform I was on moved, and the thing my feet was on didn't.
Then did core strengthening stuff.
Then did more leg work, and rows. Both to exhaustion... twice. So brutal >.>
fucked up my benchpress sets for the day, was gonna nail 75kg and it felt almost as heavy as the shit im squatting... kept thinking about it during the whole rest of my session til i started checking out if theres a difference on weight between the barbells there, as i kept mumbling and cursing for myself a personal trainer walked up to me and said they vary between 20-25kg......... i then asked him which ones were 20kg and which were 25 kg and all i got was "dunno" -.-

They don't know? the f...? That makes a huge difference on a bench, especially if you're at your current limit. I know I've accidentally put an extra 10lbs on squat, but that's not nearly as bad.
yeah i know its fucking TERRIBLE, im doing 2.5kg increases per week and its pretty touch and go for 3(sets)x5(reps)..it means i could slap on 80kg instead of 75kg.. and when you spend time screwing around with that failing after 2 reps and exhausting yourself is NOT funny
