I hate being sick - started feeling symptoms of strep throat on Monday morning and have been on break from workouts since then. I can't believe how hard it is to resist the temptation of giving into lifting. Luckily it's been getting better and getting about an hour and a half of sun today while slowly mowing the lawn sure helped me feel energized. Gonna take it easy and just keep on stretching and resting until at the very least Friday.

vitamin D man...

http://www.eatmoveimprove.com/2009/10/a-closer-look-at-vitamin-d/

I'll second this. I was one of those people who was actually always sick before I started to take Vitamin D (pretty sure I was severely deficient in it growing up now that I think about it... Acid Reflux, weak bones, calcium-dominated kidney stones, and poor calcium absorption, insomnia, couple hormone disorders...) I had a sinus infection from the beginning of last July until ~October. Started taking my Vit D (10k IU/day unless I get significant sunshine) and I haven't been sick in almost 8 months. Got bloodwork at the doctors back in ~April for me bad knee, and apparently I had strep throat at the time. Didn't feel a thing.

Woke up one morning about 10 days ago and my right knee was in pain... It's only a flexibility thing. I could (but have stopped since) even do squats, deadlifts with no pain. I could run and bike with no pain also. But if I raised my knee to my chest (or tried to) I would feel some pretty serious pain. Some days I don't feel it much, but others I feel it a lot. I feel it the most when I'm... lying down! Sleeping and such.

Finally going to the doctor tomorrow morning... not easy when you don't speak the language in the country you live in. Hope this is temporary >_< (And I have no idea what originally caused it. I just woke up and it was like this >_<)

edit: and also, it feels... tight if I walk a lot. I went for an hour walk this morning and all day my knee felt tight. But last Saturday I spent the whole afternoon running around on a beach playing sports and felt fine later on. Walking seems to tighten it up rather than running, then. Hmmm.

edit2 : changed 10 weeks ago to 10 days >_<

Also. It wasn't 10 days ago, but now my lower back is starting to ache a bit... ugh... I'm worried about what the doctor is gonna say tomorrow. Hamstrings feel a bit tight too.

If you're trying to compensate for the knee when you walk, that's probably what's bothering the back. Your body is made to move in its natural alignment, and when you throw that off to "protect" the injured parts, other parts have to do more than they should, causing damage. If it's becoming a problem, the only solution is to really stay off it until you can see a doctor.

Walking and Running are dominated by different muscles, so it's not surprising that one affects it more than the other. Could be anything from a muscle strain, to fluid buildup in the knee, to something (meniscus, ligaments, etc) being torn... Knee pain is extremely general. RICE it up, get in to that doctor who can do actual diagnostic tests.

It's really admirable of a lot of you to try and convince others of healthy eating habits and overall lifestyle. It's a argument that I've all but given up on when it comes to most people. Even if they ask me honestly I know the answer I'd give is one that they'd rather not hear, so they'll dismiss it almost at once. Makes me just not even bother with certain people. I can use my energies elsewhere; like squatting and continuing to get stronger than those people.

I get frustrated with people easily, and one of my biggest pet peeves is someone who's opinion is almost exclusively based around complete fallacies, or half-truths, or 'what they heard'. That coupled with the fact that some people try to argue these "points" from an objective point of view. It's enough stupidity to make me just shut my mouth and walk away. I'm not belligerent by nature, and while another person may relish in a debate victory off of useless information because I just walked away I see nothing in it for me if I keep trying to argue my point.

I hate to put it this way (no I don't) but it's like winning the special Olympics.

Either way you're still retarded? .

I work with one of those "kind of persons". I just said to myself, not going to argue with him, it's useless and well, nothing he can "possibly" teach me, is going to enrich my whole experience.

Snatches are AWESOME, got some of them quite nice down, but yeh, I need moar practice. I'm sore as fuck, my back and arms, haha, but it's so awesome! :D

Thanks Zafrumi, Eshlow and Phyre for pointing out my vitamin deficiency. I wouldn't have known otherwise. I'll take advantage of the summer and go outside more often when it's a good day out. Not much I can do about my diet to fix this problem since my parents are still in charge of what I eat for most of the time so, I'll scout around for affordable vitamin D supplements.

Psh I agree, but at the same time when somebody actually does listen it is so worth it.

This is gonna be a short example (I hope).

My mother wanted to "tone", told her she couldn't, all that jazz. She does like a cardio weight lifting class (somewhat like crossfit) at the gym, but I told her she still isn't lifting heavy enough. I basically gave her an SS workout (exactly actually) and even went in to teach her the lifts (although, it was a lot harder and I think I gave her some false information the first time). I don't think she's doing it anymore and sure it sucks, but I tried. If she really wanted it, she'd follow my advice.

My grandma also was talking to my mom at work (own a family business) and it was all about how you need to eat every few hours to keep your metabolism up and I was just like Oh grandma, no. And then we "argued" it for a little, I showed her leangains, and let her do her own thing. I don't care if she disagrees with me anymore :D It is grandma after all! lol

Something I've been wondering for awhile. What is up with the special user icons, like funkies? I say we get some TL HF ones

Sitting at 211 pounds as of waking up, still with visible abs lol. 9 more pounds to 100kg! With approx 9 weeks of summer left it should be reasonable. I think highest i ever got up to was 215 or so back in last april probably 15+ bf%

haha that video makes me feel like anything i could possibly complain about is totally worthless. Such an unreal recovery. "You'll never hold 100 lbs above your head" "fuck you ima cj 400"
@funkie: yes snatching is lots of fun and very difficult. And you're probably always not doing something right lol
@eshlow, nice write up thanks!

Time for a workout and rugby practice whee. then im gonna have to eat a monstrous dinner, waking up at 11 vs 7 makes it a lot harder to get in an extra meal T_T
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

Milk has 400 IU per cup.

You produce 10,000 IU in your body in the summer sun if you were naked for 30 minutes.

The amount in milk is really insignificant...

That's what most of us here use.... years supply (or longer if you don't take some when you get out int he sun which should be the case). "LOW052" gets $5 off on first order

Also, if 10k is seemingly too much obviously you can take 1 every couple days or 3-4 days because fat soluble vitamins are ok to average out over a period of time. So taking 10k every 4 days is equivalent to 2,500 IU per day

@Catch: LoL funkie is an artwork contributor for TeamLiquid site.

As for showing mom and grandma, I still consider it largely a waste. Or at least, I am never the one to broach the topic and indeed do a lot to avoid it if I can. I'll talk if someone asks but even then give as curt an answer as possible LoL. In my experience people mostly have a, "Well it works for you," type of attitude and that's fine with me because I know I'm a good example of my own diet/lifestyle's effectiveness. Leave it up to them whether or not they follow up on it. If they're really interested they'll basically have to pull the answers out of me. I don't preach. It's also my experience that more often than not preaching doesn't help, even if you are genuinely asked.

Anyway; workout, grillinn', chillin', and watching the NHL draft.

today!.

yesterday was a good day yes, but today is the present!.

In the near present, I will drown my sorrows in liquor, have fun and laughs with friends, and forget that a lot of bad stuff has happened to me, Kind of like what happens in the gym, but with a lot of liquor involved.

This past 4 weeks have been so hard on me, a break-up, my Grandpa (who is, and will always be the biggest influence on me, he taught me everything and then some, he taught me how to be a man, and yet, he was my biggest supporter, and I shall always be proud to call myself his grandson) passed away.

I love him more than I love anything, he is the person I shall reflect my doings, and my accomplishments, he taught me well, he left me everything he could possibly have, and he, at the end, said he was proud of me, cause being the stubborn and asshole motherfucker that I've always been, I still keep up with, and helped him all the time I could. He was in a wheelchair, but I shall remember him as the man who had everything, yet asked for nothing, as the man that shall never be again, cause there's no two like him.

I miss you grandpa. and I love you always.

cheers friends,
let's own today, like it was bitch time!

That's awesome funkie :D I feel the same way about my grandpa. I'm supposed to head up to Chicago with him (maybe) and he's gonna teach me how to hunt/fire a gun and all that jazz. We're here for ya if you need anything, have fun.

Today's workout
Chin ups
BW + 25 lb, 5-5-5

Pull downs
120 lbs, 7.5
100 lbs, 8 reps
110 lbs, 8 reps

Seated OH press
75 lbs, 5-5-5

Lateral Raises (DBs)
22.5 lbs, 8-8-8

Standing Calves
120, 15-15-15

Standing Barbell Side Twist
Bar + 10 lb plate, 8-8-8.
Last sets: Left side= 10 reps, Right side= 8 reps

Edit: Comments from the other forum I visit
Woke up with not enough energy, so I slept two more hours. And now I have enough energy to move a mountain.

Anyways, really liked this workout. I'm either getting used to the volume or not pushing myself hard enough. Today was one of those days where I had a lot of energy but I felt like I couldn't complete another rep on most of my lifts.

Chin ups were awesome, pull downs I'm still trying to find the proper weight. Then again after going from just BW chins to +25 lb chins and keeping the same weight on pulldowns aren't bad. The 120 set wasn't up to my form standards (ex: Not getting the bar down far enough) so I dropped it down a little bit. Next week I'll get 120.

Seated press is going well, we'll see how far I can go on these. Standing calves I should of went harder on, but last week I couldn't even walk for a few days without pain in my calves lol.

Finally, thanks to chevelle, I'm starting to like my form on lateral raises. They were alot clearner and felt a lot better. Also, the barbell side twist is friggin awesome man. Thanks for all the help chevelle.

And everybody else, thanks for your help as well! (Coca, T&P even if he doesn't show up anymore, sJ, ect). Appreciate it y'all!

I was actually referring to the supplements he himself and you seem to have suggested, why on earth would you put money into supplements if a normal food product such as milk has enough to last for the day? Add to that the fact that milk is a really good protein source... Again, why supplements?
