Where do you guys get high grade, cheap fish oil/protein powder?

They are 0.10 a tablet on Amazon. And I am sure there are specialized online dealers that might be cheaper still.

Although I have no idea about brands available there and their quality.

Hey guys !

Here's my story (it's mundane, but I think it's always important to look back first) :

+ Show Spoiler +
I was never really into sport when I was a kid and progressively, as I grew up, my health got worse year after year, until the point where I weighted about 125kg (2007), mostly fat. It never really bothered me, I was blind about how terrible my health was.

This year 2007, as a hobby, I started training prowrestling in Switzerland (yeah, we have some pretty good organizations there), because I was a fan when I was a kid and wanted to do something about my health and use my love for showmanship. Suddenly, everything clicked.
I coupled that with some hardcore revisions of my nutrition, and got into the whole workout and supplementation routine overnight. The progress was amazingly quick, and I was feeding on it as much as I could. It was like finally gaining control over my life. In about twelve months, I lost tremendous amounts of fat and packed muscles to a nice (still not very lean but...) 95kg.
I was able to keep this state easily for a good year, it became natural. I was wrestling (still as a hobby, but very frequently) for the biggest promoter in Switzerland (SCW, Swiss Championship Wrestling), and I was really well established on the local scene. Everyone was noticing the changes, I felt on top of the world, confident and strong. Everything was quite perfect !

Then, I went through some stressful times in my life (breaking up, moving, finishing my studies, starting my job as a school teacher), and dropped my routine. I stopped wrestling for the SCW, and only kept doing a few shows per year for a smaller promoter (with whom I started training back in 2007 and never stopped working with). Again, everyone was noticing the change, but in a bad way this time around.
I quickly got back to 105kg and it killed me that I had ruined those two years of hard work so quickly...

In january 2011, I had enough. Signed up in the gym 100 meters away from my home, stocked on supplements, bought healthy food and promised the SCW manager (now a good friend of mine) I'd be back after the summer, in shape and ready !
It went well for two months and I was really motivated. Progress was quick and noticable. Then I hurt my shoulder during a match (for the smaller promoter) at the end of march, coupled with a stressful time at work, and stopped again.

Of course, most of those are excuses. Shitty excuses because I was just lazy and because it was always easier to stay at home and do nothing. I'm keeping them in the story because that's what ruined my efforts and I don't want that to happen again.
Now I'm getting back on track, starting today.

Daniel/Silfurstar
Age: 28 || Height: 182cm || Weight: 105kg
Starting Date: 23th May 2011 || Goal Date: September 2011 (first checkpoint)
Weight goals -- Under 100kg, more muscles, less fat (no precise weight goal though).
Training goals -- Weights & Cardio, hitting the gym 4 times a week minimum.
Nutrition goals -- Clean diet, regular supplementation.
Misc goals -- Make my comeback in the SCW at the first show coming up after this summer.
(see story if you don't get it).

And right now I'm going home, then I'll be packing my bag, and walking to the gym.

Good luck to all in this thread for your goals, and thanks for giving me a place to tell my story and find more motivation !

Thanks !

It is, really. And despite the fact that I prefer watching competitive fighting (mostly MMA) over pro wrestling now, it still manages to bring out the child in me.
Plus, doing a show in front of your friends, family or school students (and their parents), is really something amazing. Both adults and children just get so invested in it !

I have a show on wednesday, can't wait.

Broke body-weight today for both squat and dead-lift!!!

I had to reset my bench, as i think i'd been putting the weight up before i was ready, but still super happy with my workout. :D

I agree, getting a subforum along with a sticky in the tl communty section is the best solution imo.

With a whole subforum things could get alot more organized and important posts could have their own thread for easier access.

I'd just like people to have their own individual threads/journals just because sometimes I'll mix up someones' name and I have to keep myself from saying stupid things

I mean what if I got you mixed up with froadac, I'd be asking him if he broke his 220kg deadlift yet...

Especially with the recent influx of posters, Journals might be nice, and would really make the subforum HUGE. Additionally, it might be nice to have a stickied thread that was about weightlifting, for people interested in getting started, or looking for a new routine to move on to, maybe one about running, for the runners, and one about diet questions? That way people can go to the "community" in those larger threads and the community that's interested in someone's personal progress can go to the individual in their smaller thread?

That and it would be great to track my own progress in a thread where I don't have to do a search for my name to see what I did last time =p. I've got some pictures taken that are "before" pictures for this summer I'd absolutely start a journal off with.

Hey!
I was lurking around and found this great thread, it might be just what I need to get started with this!

Marius

Age: 20 || Height: 170 cm || Weight: 71kg

Starting Date: 23th may 2011 || Goal Date: July 2011 to start with. My main challenge will be to get my lazy ass off the computer. So if I have a regular training schedule by the start of July (even earlier would be better) I can start setting other more specific goals then.

Weight goals -- I've always been skinny, but after I finished school I have started gaining weight slowly. I want to stop gaining weight, and remove a lot of the belly fat I have been building up ^^ My ultimate weight goal will be around 65-70kg as I don't aim for a lot of muscle.... For now.

Training goals -- Hitting the gym 3 times a week. Setting up a full-body training schedule (I currently have absolutely no knowledge of working out). And running/cycling at weekends. I want to significantly improve my horrible endurance. At the moment I run "2,5ish" km (a lap around a local pond) in 13 minutes. I want to take at least 2 minutes off that time eventually. But I have to start with a smaller and more realistic goal. I think I should be able to cut 30 seconds off that time by the start of July. I have no experience with working out so this is "a stab in the dark" goal

Nutrition goals -- To start off I want to cut out all the unnecessary sugar, no more soda drinking every day. I also need to eat more regularly, as of now I just eat whatever I feel like whenever I feel like. Basically I just want a normal healthy diet, not a "hardcore working out diet".

Misc goals -- Improve my sleep schedule... Right now I sleep from about 5am to 3pm. I will change that starting tonight. 12pm to 7-8am is the goal. And this next goal I've probably had 10 times before, I need to be less socially awkward.

I really wish i could be more specific about my goals, but I have absolutely no knowledge about working out nor nutrition. So right now the goal is just to get rid of the "I'll do it tomorrow" attitude and start doing shit! And I really hope this post will motivate me to do just that. I'll make sure to make a new post with more specific goals then!

My shoulder has been bothering me for the past 2 weeks, pretty sure it's a rotator cuff issue (I frequently hurt my shoulder playing volleyball). I've been doing some band exercises, but hasn't been helping too much. Any tips on how to deal?

Anyway, workout yesterday was great success

Squat: 250 3x5 (feels so easy)
Press: 110 5-4-3 (one more workout, then hopefully busting out the 35 plates)
P Clean: 135 5x3 (form still needs work)
pullups: 5-5-1

Yeah, and then you can start a journal over at wannabebig.com and join me :D Don't worry, I'll plug y'all over there once when get our own forum too Its how I check my progress/lifts and all that jazz though.

But that sounds like a good idea. The only bad thing I could see is that tons of people will come in and say hey here's my routine, how is it? When generally speaking, their not very efficient. I see happen all the time on forums I frequent... I was already thinking of starting a form check thread, just to make sure people don't injure/kill themselves. Of course, a lot of us who have been in this thread or have had prior experience could help. For example, I'd need dimsum's (or whoever really) on the olympic lifts since I don't really have much experience in the area.

re: The whole "here's my routine how is it: *proceeds to list 10 variation of curls, 6x/week", I don't think that will be a problem. Similar to how in the strategy forums, people could put "hey check out this brilliant new build" that is actually really poor.. all we need is a sticky "Read This Before Posting!", which outlines good routines, and so on (like they have on BB, where the sticky essentially says "See *here* for good routines. Nobody is going to critique your routine because it sucks. If you're certain it doesn't, you wouldn't be posting here for validation"

We could also have a Quick Question / Quick Answer thread for stuff like that. There's lots of options.

I dunno, we have all that info in the OP and still get tons of questions about it but yeah, a sticky thread might help

Hey guys I have a nutrition related question. I was wondering how much protein is good to consume when you are working out when trying to build up muscle. And when should I be consuming protein? Before/after a workout? If I am taking in my protein through beef jerky, how many grams of protein do I need?

I wouldn't worry about when you eat until you're good with your diet. I don't think it has a significant effect until you're hitting your limit, i.e. going from 10% bf to 6% and everything else is optimal. According to leangains, you start eating (not just protein) after your workout.

If you're actually eating a full meal, it's going to take more than six hours to digest; if you're not cutting weight (which you aren't, since you're trying to build up muscle) I don't think it matters so much WHEN you eat as it does WHAT you eat. Just eat real, unprocessed foods, keep the grains to a minimum, and probably carbs in general pretty low, except in your post-workout/recovery meal. Get your protein all throughout the day though, and especially before you sleep. Your body is always using it.

Beef Jerky isn't the greatest source for protein out there - especially if it's the store bought stuff, rather than home made. It's expensive for what you're getting, and it's LOADED with extra sodium, preservatives, and just generally unhealthy stuff. Try to stick to real food. I don't count my macros personally, but since the majority of my diet is meat and milk (and cheese, and cottage cheese, and yogurt...), with veggies thrown in on the sides, I'm pretty sure I get what I need. I've always heard .8g per pound when maintaining/cutting, and 1-1,5 g/pound when bulking/building muscle. Not sure if that's based in science however.

On the diet note, I ate a two chicken wraps yesterday, and later had an oatmeal cookie. Stomach ache all night. Back to Paleo, no regrets <3. I'll wrap it in lettuce next time.

Edit: for those asking about fish oil, I take these:
http://www.iherb.com/Natural-Factors-RxOmega-3-Factors-EPA-400-mg-DHA-200-mg-240-Softgels/4251?at=0
two bottles is a year's supply, taking them like I do (1.5/day) and it's ~60 bucks for the both of them. Remember to use eshlow's Low052 (is that right?) coupon for $5 off the first order!

Quick question:

Had a runny nose and sneezing all day yesterday. Took a couple of Emergen-C fizzy shots and some Tylenol before bed. Woke up this morning feeling perfectly fine.

Am I okay to head out to the gym today? Looking to hit PRs in all of my lifts.
