I'm not sure how club sport works in America but at least in football you can have a squad made up of mainly non-locals. That's why Champions league is a much higher level of competition than the World Cup. It's a competition between clubs from different countries that craft the best squad they are able to. It isn't a competition between the best the countries have to offer. In a way they do represent the countries local club competition but again that isn't the same as representing the country itself. All they represent is the club on that field.
I don't really get what's not to understand. Instead of cheering for the club they cheering for a country. It feels disrespectful to the club and is rather silly in the context of what is going on as well as no one else doing this in any sphere I know of.
Funnily enough all the Americans comment one way and non Americans comment another so far lol.
yes but you'll note that in football people still cheer for teams from [their country] for being from [their country] despite nobody on the team being from [their country]
what you need to learn young padawan is that people are always going to be idiots
americans are just louder about it, also resulting in ironic counter-U S A (or TSM, whatevs) chants, so you hear more of it

Yea they do but no Liverpool fan will cheer for Man U or Arsenal in Champs League just because they English. Well unless they hate the team they playing more than they hate their own English teams lol.
I just want some hype EG chants man. Like those crazy Ehome ones. Why people got to deny that for silly stuff
The team in the grand finals, CDEC, didn't get invited. They failed in the regional qualifiers. So they just got through the wildcards qualifier, went up enough in their group to start in the winner's bracket, and haven't dropped a single game in their run so far. And they're playing super ham.
Don't really care if EG wins I'd just like to see them in the finals because it's more hype for the fans. East and West alike love seeing their teams battle in a finals.

USA is just synonymous with EG because there are no other good American teams.
Also, CDEC winning TI is absolutely the best thing that could possibly happen to competitive DotA.

There really isn't, it's a generally played up rivalry when it happens it's just people like to be contrarian and take it way too seriously. Oh no they're shouting USA or TSM boohoo I'm going to complain about people having fun because I don't like it.
On a more on topic offtopic. The TI games I've catched have been fairly entertaining despite my lack of knowledge. I would however like to know more about the teams/stories behind them.
Because some people think that they aren't being mentally retarded when they do it.

Part of the disconnect might be that if the team is American, but the players on the team aren't American, we will still see it (and them) as Americans, whereas in Europe if an African comes to England to play on an English team he's still seen by the English as an African and not English.
Because Europeans are super racist and Americans are not (zing!)
dam is ketara trolling us is it reverse day or something we aren't racist against africans we are racist against the black players that are born and bred in england

Sumail lives in Chicago, so it counts.
It's just weird to make this about nationalism instead of the teams. As I said I think no one else does this besides US. Seem to make everything about nationalism. Don't really think this has a place in eSports or at least we shouldn't encourage it.
They encourage it in the Olympics and the World Cup. Why not E-Sports?
Leaving the discussion about if nationalism is a good thing or not aside ,both those events are national events that take place between countries. TI takes place between teams of players and not countries. You are comparing apples to oranges here.
In other club sports you may typically root for the teams from your country when player other countries but I have never heard people cheering for the country itself instead of the club at such events. The only time I have ever seen this happen is esports events involving US teams/crowds.
While not exaclty the same thing, EU was regionalist as fuck until new Fnatic saved the region.
Watching Akame ga Kill since my guest wanted to show me some episodes. I guess I'll be able to watch all the way, but there are already a couple things that were made obvious through the heavy (and not subtle at all) use of tropes and archetypes, up to colour-coding all the main characters. On the other hand the whole premise is treated with a lot more attention to detail than I'd have thought (I mean, I'm coming from Fairy Tail about which I wondered for several arcs whether it was a deliberate parody or simply atrocious "writing" and the guest loves it too, she described Akame to me as "an assassin guild which kills corrupt officials so the Empire becomes a nice place again" which is very short-sighted as a goal).
... I should probably be finishing Avatar instead anyway.

Yes. Yes it is. After one of those, I usually don't look at meat for 2 days.

it's pretty good
Yea Fogo is great. Only go during Restaurant Week though.
Regardless of the players, the country the club belongs to is going to be more prestigious due to winning an event. I find it so disingenuous for someone to question that. To illustrate my point:
Gee, I wonder why people who identify as being American want a team who identifies as being American to win. I also have this weird curiosity why Americans are proud of being American. I assure you, I'm not being disingenuous at all!
