I thought magic was some hardcore stuff not this super casual crap lol. It seems like it's all prerecorded or at least has a rather big buffer between when they played and when they show on stream. Its Bo3 in quarters and semis for time reasons. It uses to be bo5 the whole way through but then we didn't get to see each match in top8 because they had to be played at the same time.

Like this series I just watched. Game 1 guy A won in like 5 minutes. Game 2 guy B won in 5 minutes. Game 3 was a bit longer which eventually lead to guy A winning. In my eyes it seems a bit crazy that guy A is now determined the better player when they only had "one game" that showcased anything.

Seems ludicrous to have Bo3 SE in a competitive card game. It also ties in to my earlier discussion with Yanger about why a person needs so few wins to be "hall of fame" and his response was that the best players aren't always the ones winning. I thought it was just the nature of the card game that did that but now I realize it's the fault of the format as well. Like this series I just watched. Game 1 guy A won in like 5 minutes. You do your best do eliminate RNG on your side and plays but ultimately if you don't draw well tough luck. Things like that can happen. I've been to events where I'm running the exact same 75 cards as the guy who wins, only to lose the first two rounds and be eliminated because he drew lands and spells and I didn't. Pro tours are 50% prep, 20% skill and 31% luck. You can be the best guy in the room, but if you don't draw well you aren't walking away with the win.

Bo3 SE in a game like that is one short step away from just throwing dice and declaring a winner. If every match of the 16 round tournament and top8 was bo5 they would start on a Monday and finish a week later. Double elim in a card game would be nice but also just take too long. Pro Tours are already too long for most people. Playing in an event that takes 14 hours where youbare constantly thinking is very taxing. Would it be nice to have those things? Sure, but its just not realistic.

Anyway my main point was that I've always heard of magic as this ultra hardcore competitive card game so seeing them using such an awful format to determine the winner caused a bit of a shock. edit: ROfl this guy just won in under 5 minutes! edit2: Second game in 5 minutes lolololol.
