OK, someone needs to explain how and when NA dota stopped being complete ass aside from EG.
How many virgins, goats, and souls were sacrificed to Lucifer, Cthulu and every other demon/god/monster to allow CoL to place 3rd in their group?

OK. HERE WE GO.
Enter Meek Mill. A rapper from Philadelphia gaining more mainstream popularity from his album, Dreams and Nightmares. If you haven't listened to it I suggest a listen through. You get a feel for how MOST people perceive Meek Mill to be. The first song on the album, Dreams and Nightmares is.absolute.fire.FIRE. It is by far and large his iconic track. + Show Spoiler [Dreams and Nightmares] + While not gaining the large numbers that Drake and other more popular rappers have garnered, this was definitely a great work. I particularly enjoy the song "Traumatized". I would highly suggest you give it one listen through (the album, Dreams and Nightmares). But by all measures, Meek Mill spits BARS. He has this screaming, in your face, yelling at you get hype as fuck mood to his songs. Different style than what can, in my opinion, be mainstream popular but it's good stuff still. No knocks for Meek Mill.
Then we have Drake, a rapper from Toronto. I don't think he needs any explanation, but I will give a brief one. He first came on to the scene with his 2009 mixtape, So Far Gone. So Far Gone CHANGED THE GAME. It was only a mixtape but the quality and quantity of songs and features he had on it were fairly unprecedented at the time. Ever since So Far Gone, rappers could never just drop a mixtape anymore. A mixtape held so much more weight because of Drake's success. He also changed the face of rap with his ability to sing, and the stuff he was talking about (exes, emotions, all the shit people hate Drake for). Drake could throw a club banger, an R&B slow track you get laid to, or an introspective song you sit alone with a blunt and just ponder life on. Then Drake dropped Thank Me Later. Then Take Care. Then Nothing Was The Same. Then Somethings Never Change. Then If You're Reading This Then It's Too Late. All of his musical projects since So Far Gone have been iconic. Almost to the point of instant classics (but that's a little bias in me). Still though. He has SMASHED records in terms of number one hits. His ability to be appreciated by mainstream culture but hardcore hip hop heads is pretty incredible. He has a line, "And me doing them shows getting everyone nervous cause/Them hipsters going have to get along with them hood niggas" that I think really encompasses his popularity well. In any case, Drake is a BIG name in the game and most certainly in the top echelon of rappers today and moving forward.
So Drake featured on Meek Mill's newest album Dreams Worth More than Money in the Song R.I.C.O. One of Drake's first lines, "The girl of your dreams is probably not a challenge" kinda threw a little at Meek Mill. Whether he meant it or not, Meek ended up tweeting some shit about how when he first heard it he was like "WTF You doing dawg?" This is in reference to the fact that Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj are dating (they might even be engaged?). Given the history of Nicki and Drake being close and working together on multiple occassions and ALSO Drake's feature on Nicki's latest album in the song "Only" where Drake says "I never fucked Nicki cause she got a man/But when that's over then I'm first in line" - Drake makes it pretty obvious what he would like to do (and has in other songs as well). This was just a little bit. Nothing huge.
Anyway. R.I.C.O., the song Drake was featured on in Meek's newest album, was Meek's highest rated song on the charts. In fact, 2 of 3 Meek's highest chart rated songs, have Drake features. Regardless. At some point, last week? Meek blew up on twitter about how Drake never gave a shoutout/tweet/promoted Meek's newest album. Then he proceeded to go OFF on twitter about how Drake has a ghostwriter named Quentin Miller. He just spouts this shit saying the verse for R.I.C.O. that Drake spit was ghostwritten and he doesn't even write his own shit.
Meanwhile, during all of this. Drake says NOTHING. Just sits back. Watches. People come to defend him. People come to defend Meek (still talking mad shit on twitter and not doing anything rap related about it). Then Drake drops Charged Up. It wasn't REALLY a diss track. It was more of a "You tryna fuck with me dawg? Cross this line homie. I fucking dare you."
THEN. Dj Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97 (a well known rap station) says Meek Mill gonna come on the show and drop a response. Everyone gets hype for it. Meek never shows up. I am unsure of whether or not Meek Mill was working with Flex, but the point is people expected a response and NOTHING. I actually listened to the radio station for about 4 hours where he just played Trap Queen on repeat LOL.
So what does Drake do? He drops Back to Back. Which is ABSOLUTELY a diss track. He TEARS apart Meek. Makes him look fucking STUPID. And STILL Meek has not responded. I been listening to this shit on repeat. It is Peanut Butter and fucking JAM. This song had SO many levels to it. From the cover art to the lyrics to the rap meta. The cover art is a picture of Joe Frasier hitting a walk off homer in the 93 world series where the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies in BACK TO BACK World Series. He sent Charlemagne from hot 95 and known rival of Dj Funkmaster Flex 6 bottles of Dom because "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." (Charlemagne has been one of Drake's biggest and most outspoken critics/haters for a minute now). He spits about listening to "AR-AB" a rapper from philly who I believe has had previous beef with Meek Mill, and is now rumored to be signed by OVO Sound (Drake's Label). He shits on Meek for being the lesser rapper in his relationship (cause Nicki absolutely eclipses him in terms of popularity and to a certain extent I believe she is actually a better rapper).
But the BIGGEST thing about this is that Meek Mill is a battle rapper. This is how he came up. He came up as a hype machine. Someone who you don't fuck with. Drake on the other hand has always been known as "your girlfriend's favorite rapper". He has never really beefed with anyone. And right now Drake is dropping BOMBS on him. He is just winning all over the god damn place. And I am fucking LOVING it.
What I really REALLY hope for is Drake dropping a cover of Dreams and Nightmares. If he pulls that off BETTER than Meek, then Ionno what he can do. Meek Mill is losing so much face right now. He is just getting pooped on. OH and Meek Mill did all this shit about a week before he was supposed to perform in Toronto LOL.
ps OnlyWonderBoy's post is actually a REAL TL;DR. Mine is the Alaric version. double ps One of the better things to come out of this is Norm Kelly, a councilor of Toronto, and his twitter backing Drake 100% with tweets

NA LCS should already be enough indication that a good import player can rocket your team to being competitive, so long as that player is sufficiently good.

Col are a bunch of HoN guys and Fly(ex-fnatic guy). Group A is a little bit of an iffy group in that it has 2 strong teams in Secret/LGD then teams that were strong but kind of shit the bed in the last few months in iG/C9. It then has Fnatic who are really new and didn't really do too much but they have a lot of big names. Rounding it out there is Navi and MVP who are both bottom tier teams at this TI. So I think it's partially them playing well and partially everyone else kind of shitting the bed. The two strong teams that they played they lost 0-2 in pretty one sided games iirc.
So while it's not complete ass outside of EG, it's a bit early to celebrate. I'm pretty excited to see how they do in the bracket stage, hopefully they can keep it up.
|
I guess...and I'm not hyped for NA not being shit. I dislike almost every team in NA, barring LVT, those guys are funny and likeable, mostly because of Jenkins, but Jenkins is a bro.

Its a mix between elementary school fight and publicity stunt. Got it.
