Read it already, just finished Yu Yu Hakusho after not reading for 2-3 years. On July 11 2015 07:32 GhandiEAGLE wrote: Want a good, short manga to read? Try Holyland. Awful art but really interesting story. Maybe, I know it's good, but I dunno, art style is really important to help convey the story in fighting based manga...Maybe, who knows. it's only 18 volumes, so a couple days if I do it during trips to the office/home and maybe a volume or two a night.... I'll make a list of all the manga I've read/am reading, I can edit it for series that have finished if people want. + Show Spoiler [list of read manga] + Hikaru no go Yu Yu Hakusho Rurouni Kenshin (must read) Psyren (must read) Red Storm (good manwha, enjoy it, in it's 7th or 8th "season" Doulou Dalu (good, like the story, manhua, so reads differently) Kingdom (must read) One Piece Bleach(end pls) Naruto/Naruto 7th Hokage (ending took so long and then it fucking started again with the kids -.-) Nanatsu no taizai (good, really enjoy) Claymore(ending was meh, final fight was really stupid, good aside from that) Death Note (good, not fucking amazing, but still really good psychological story) FMA Dragon Ball (up to end of Cell saga/beginning of Majin Boo saga) Kekkaishi (shounen, standard love/coming of age story of two childhood friends fighting demons) Prince of Tennis Kuroko no Basket Hellsing (good, Dawn is decent as well, top 2 vampire manga) Jormundgand (favorite, holy shit so good until the ending, the ending blows) Blade of the Immortal Berserk (NSFW, amazing art, good story, AGES FOR FUCKIGN UPDATES) Fairy Tail Gunslinger Girl Red Eyes One-Punch Man Trigun+Maximum Hunter x Hunter City of Darkness S1 Song of the Long March (shoujo, one of the few I like) Akame ga Kill+Zero (death) Anit-Magic Academy 35th Test Platoon (ecchi) Gun x Clover (NSFW, heavy ecchi) Soul Eater Zetsuen no Tempest World Embryo Red Raven Ordinary ± (same universe as Destro 246) Mother Keeper Dark Air Destro 246 (Different PoV from Ordinary ±) Black Joke (NSFW, has talk of sexual acts, plus has a couple pages of nude/"compromising" panels) Record of a Fallen Vampire (top two vampire manga) Drifters (same mangaka as Hellsing) Historie Blood Parade Dendrobates (good assassin manga, enjoyed it) Holy shit, Inuyasha is 56 volumes o.O....Might put this one off boys

One Piece does drag on, like the current manga arc did, but it gets around it because it mixes lightheartedness with being serious when it calls for it, like death of a character. Still has insane melodrama, but meh, it's shounen.

I wasn't aware you could be a Mary Sue without being inserted into someone else's universe, but such is the awe inspiring power of Bleach.

The execution had several fuck-ups (especially the "I knew all along but I didn't want people to hate him" part) but the general context and real-life inspirations make it stand out. A Mary Sue is not necessarily a self-insert, nor does it need to be an "original character" inserted in another's universe via a fanfiction. It often is a narrator's mouthpiece though.
