I don't think anything says "I need a new laptop", more than a picture of whatever 3rd world country he's in.

In its closed position, the hair is oriented toward the West, ranging south in its position of maximum aperture board. What the fuck is the "hair" of a bridge/building/structure? I'm very amateurishly trying to translate this text into German so we can work with it, but googling the meaning of hair gives only trivial answers. ps: there is a chance that the text i'm working with is simply screwed up and that something like the hair of the bridge doesn't actually exist. so if it sounds way too obscure, let me know.

Because I'm sure there are all sorts of crazy terms involved that don't make a lot of sense to the average English-speaking person. A cursory glance at your post history would indicate your grasp of English is certainly good enough that I don't see how asking a 'native' speaker would help. (It's not like most 'native' speakers have a good grasp of the language themselves, as indicated by Cheep a whole bunch in this thread.)

Why are you taking English lessons from that shitter.

You're talking about this bridge?: http://en.wikiarquitectura.com/index.php/Bridge_"La_Mujer" Most likely by "hair" they're referring to the pointed needle/(hair-like?) structure that jets out from the bridge: http://en.wikiarquitectura.com/index.php/File:Puente_de_la_mujer_10.jpg

(It's not like most 'native' speakers have a good grasp of the language themselves, as indicated by Cheep a whole bunch in this thread.) Oh, well thank you. I'm studying constructional engineering. Unfortunately there are barely any German sources available for the bridge I need to do a report on. You're quite right about the crazy terms, it's a clusterfuck trying to work with English terms like these if you haven't even heard the German equivalent ever before in your life. Yup I thought it would be the needle/pylon, too, but the word "hair" just completely threw me off, because it never got mentioned anywhere else before.
