I mean id like to see studies on this shit because its very incomplete. How reliable is the information about people brushing flossing twice a day and eating healthy. Because I imagine a lot of people say that to avoid embarassment.
The problem with people misrepresenting their own activities when asked is so well known it was even discussed in my intro to psych class in college. The people designing these studies know better than that and if they rely on self-reporting it's generally because they can find results *despite* people trying to make themselves look good.
You don't get taller by playing basketball, it's self-selecting. If you wanted to examine sports/reading you'd have to set up a long term experiment, simply saying "near-sighted people don't play soccer" isn't surprising.

yeah thats true, it just seems strong teeth would be such an obvious advantage with no drawbacks if it was purely genetic that everyone would have them
near-sighted people read more could be a better explanation than people who read more become near sighted, but it could also be a combination

It's a correlation/causation confusion kind of thing.
And phyvo is right. "Self-reporting" studies are fairly worthless from a scientific and statistical perspective. It's almost impossible for self-reporting to be unbiased just by the simple fact that we have preconceptions about our actions and their repercussions.
But yeah, there seems to be a lot of different view points when it comes to dental studies, which I find rather interesting.

Well conversely i sit infront of a computer all day for over a decade and read a tonne and I have 20/20 vision. I still don't play soccer but its because i prefer hockey.
|
Well the whole near work and eye stress theories in regard to nearsightedness is still up for debate. But the main cause is the genetic factor that is causing your eye ball axial length to be longer than 24mm.

you guys should download dictionary of numbers as an extension for your web browser if it's available. It makes reading any sort of article with numbers a lot funnier.

Evolution won't select for "perfect" traits simply because they're perfect. Evolution will only select for traits that confer a significant advantage that allow for increased ability to survive/pass on your genes. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that having stronger teeth does not necessarily increase your ability to survive/make babies significantly enough such that evolution would've selected for it. There could also be other factors at play, as well; perhaps the gene that makes teeth weaker coincidentally makes trait X stronger, which is selected for. (Ex. Scientist hypothesize that Asians have small eyes because that trait is linked to a gene that also causes increased perspiration, which Asians are also known for, which may have been selected for due to the climate of East Asia)

I don't think I have as much preferred drinks as opposed to drinks I do not prefer.
Gin and tonic is on that list.

I hate drinking (the taste is horrid), but I recently had some Jaegar and Jaegar-bombs, those were actually quite nice. I wouldn't exactly make myself those at home while playing league or something but if I were to go out I'd probably get one of those
|
My old roommate and I would fairly frequently (once every couple of months) do Monster/Jaeger. We'd usually split a 750mL of Jaeger and it would be mostly, if not all the way, gone the next day.
It's horribly, horribly unhealthy. So much sugar and caffeine and alcohol. The next day was always miserable.
I've never actually done a real Jaeger-bomb.

It's just jaeger and redbull, I don't imagine it to be that much different

Hah, holy shit. I was just taking a shower before a job interview and the cold water handle popped right off and started firehosing the room. I had to run half naked down the street and bust into the apartment manager's house or we would have flooded.

Drinks: Gin 'n Tonic, DogfishHead 90 Minute IPA, Magic Hat #9, and of course, Straight Whiskey kept in a freezer.
