I mean yes it obviously helps if you play a game that people are interested, but people watch your stream for you. This is pretty much what I told Wave 2 days ago. Ehhhh we talked about this and I don't agree necessarily. Yes the fact is that a fair number of people from OT watched me play Dark Souls because Wave + DS = hilarity and whatnot, and because there we people to talk to and interact with more people showed up as I streamed regularly, but the fact remains the 'pull' was Dark Souls. In this case the 'pull' would be The Witcher. I could stream MTGO or Isaac or whatever and I wouldn't get nearly as many viewers as last year because a) fewer people in OT care about us streaming anymore + fewer people in OT in general b) fewer people care about those specific games
I personally stream because I enjoy entertaining people and interacting with viewers, and it's not fun for me just to turn the stream on and see 3 people there and not talking, or no one there at all. It adds an invisible amount of extra effort/stress to playing games that wouldn't be there were I not broadcasting. I love that people want to watch either me or Soniv because it's 'us,' but the fact remains that we're not popular enough for more than 3-5 people to drop in and out at any one time, and certainly not enough to keep up the viewer interaction that I personally enjoy.
Now that I'm off I want to start streaming REGULARLY again just like last year, but my problem is I don't have a 'pull' that can get me to the same or even close to the level I was at last year. Right now the games I want to play are too sporadic/short, and I don't have a specific 'goal' that will keep me going through one gaming session for an extended amount of time. For Soniv, the Witcher is probably perfect in that regard, but I personally don't know if the game itself has enough 'pull.'

Your stream are too high quality for me to watch ;(.

Was hesitant to start this basketball anime called "Kuroko's Basketball", mainly because the last sports anime I watched was Eyeshield 21, and thought it was pretty butt, but now that I'm waiting for NBA Finals to start soon, this is actually a pretty good way to fill in that void lolol.
I also heard Blood Battle Blockade is great too.

I couldn't figure out what you talking about since I only ever see it written in Japanese. It's a decent spectacle show if you like that. There are a few sports anime I really like. Chihayafuru, Saki, Girls und Panzer are my favs. There's cross game and prince of tennis too.

For Soniv, the Witcher is probably perfect in that regard, but I personally don't know if the game itself has enough 'pull.' I see where you're coming from, and I think you raise a legitimate point. Thinking about it now, if all you ever played was Tomb of the Necrodancer, I don't think I'd watch your stream.
But if you look at the big name YouTubers, sure people watch them for the games they play. But more importantly, they watch them for the personalities. I'm not saying that the game is irrelevant, but you can't just discount the personality playing the game. I'd say that the person playing the game is about 60% of the reason someone watches their stream, while the other 40% is due to the game their playing.*
And the thing is too, people are different. Some people will only watch people play games they're interested in, while others might just watch Markiplier just because he's Markiplier.
But ideally you want both. I think as far as this thread goes though, most people watch other people because they like the personalities.
*I should really stress the point that I just threw out some numbers. I am more than willing to admit that I might be entirely wrong on this point and maybe people watch streamers mostly for the game content and not the streamer itself. I just don't think that this is the case however.

I wonder how you would react if Gimble started acting like this.
hmmm..

If a stream is linked here, I usually tune in no matter what game is being played if I'm around.

Today Gimble decided he wanted to die. He missed his opportunity with the random lightning bolt dude. Next level we'll be fine. Because removing a rocky splinter from a god has to be worth some EXP, right?
