Yea sounds like something wrong happened. I know heart attacks at gym can happen just due to increasing heart rate increases risk in the short term but not having electrolytes is pretty intense. I'm sure you'd start to feel light headed before that point? Really sucks though . I know how broken I was after that guy collapsed at my gym a few months back.

Thing is, who actually knows what it feels like when their electrolytes are low? It's not like heart attacks where the symptoms are somewhat often mentioned.

i mean we know what those symptoms are, but a lot of people pass them off as other things.

electrolytes are: calcium potassium sodium and i think magnesium?? you get light headed and faint temporarily confused and then you can get twitching or other stuff depending on if its an excess or deficiency.

though a lot of times you'll see problems in anorexic people or bulimics because they are deficient in nutrients many times.though thyroid problems can cause issues (knew people in both categories)

My dad used to do air conditioning and refrigeration for a company that used their own inhouse company to service all their stores (aka basically a large portion of wendy's and some fridays in the NE).
He used to often do 12 hour work days and they basically always gave him free soda because he worked for them so he'd just get that to drink throughout the day. After a 12 hour workday you're always exhausted so you just assume the light headedness is from being tired. Then one day he woke up and couldn't move. Barely had any electrolytes left.

He was sick for basically 5 days and ended up drinking only gatorade for about a week before he was back to normal >.>

yeah, I'd put that under the intensely wrong category. Eat food and drink water in normal amounts and it's hard to go wrong.

I like Rehab as well in fact it's the only monster I actively drink(actively meaning like 1 or 2 a week). Generally I just stick to coffee or tea for my caffeine fixes. Was one other thing.. Arriba Horchata but I can't find that anymore and I don't care so much to order it from the internet.

I don't really have sympathy for people who get accidentally dehydrated. Drink water, that's it. If you're thirsty and doing physical activity, it's already too late. I can always tell when I'm getting dehydrated cuz I get the random muscle twitches like mad.

Okay so sorry for being a complete nutritional scrub, but how does one run out of electrolytes exactly? Sorry if it was already discussed, but I'm still unsure.

Our Vietnamese diet is rice, a simple meat dish, a simple (most of the times steamed) veggie dish and a veggie soup. Drink water and some green tea too.

Since we opened up the country people have been eating richer, fattier Western foods and suddenly out of nowhere many more people started to have health problems.

IDK, Soniv, there's a pretty wide margin between "enough to not get dehydrated" and the recommended 2-3 liters per day.

I know that when I first started consciously checking myself on that a few years ago, I definitely wasn't drinking enough water.

Yanger said it's possible you don't really notice the problem as the body is pretty good at trying to maintain normality.

If your diet has insufficient calcium/sodium/magnesium/potassium. Or has far too much (both lead to electrolyte imbalance)
Losing a lot of bodily fluids over a long period of time (days to weeks), from diarrhea, vomiting, profuse sweating from exercise/fever and not replenishing them.
Kidney disease can cause issues or issues with your digestive tract that prevent the absorption of the nutrients
chemotherapy can cause issues too iirc.

i'm sure there are other drugs that can cause issues as a side effect as well.

I mean, sure. I personally drink close to a gallon of water per day (most days). But for people to just not drink any or enough water (or worse, soda and shit) while being physically active and then being negatively affected by it - that's just natural selection as far as I'm concerned.

Becoming dehydrated just normally over the course of the day is understandable, it happens; and it's not nearly as detrimental - get a headache, feel run down/tired, but otherwise fairly minimal negative effects until you drink a couple gulpes of glorious H2O

No one? No? Edit: thank you coma :D

Just had a crazy moment, I'm reviewing a document and there's a large paragraph I glance at. Instantly I know there's a typo but I'm not sure where. Start going line by line and find it. The human brain is nuts. I'm geeking out over it more than anything.

there are too many external factors for it to be natural selection though. people are advertised to, educated poorly due to zoning or income class. ect. some people live in cities where the water is unclean from the tap.

People make mistakes, they push themselves too far. In places where you know it's actually hot this can lead to problems. There is a reason Gatorade was invented in a state where you can track the settlement and population growth by the invention and accessibility of Air Conditioning.

Calling these things "natural selection" as you still hear about the occasional story about a player fainting on a training field or worse and you think that's just some twisted form of Darwinism? Don't be a jerk Soniv.
