Net neutrality is one of those things where when you understand what it is, everybody wants it, but it's confusing to people who don't understand how the internet works. The LWT video on it is really pretty great:

I check out Conan and very rarely Kimmel, and for those, I just go for their quick interviews/short segments.

-One or two isp's controlling a region and no competition between them as they've split up the area for themselves so they can control the price. -ISP speeds are terrible in relation to many other nations, despite the federal government dropping tons of cash to said providers in hopes they would upgrade infrastructure. -Providers deciding to slow down or cut off access to some internet services for the sake of profit. Net neutrality addresses: ISP's are now treated as utility providers. What I'm saying is at best it's a empty gesture, at worst it's giving more control to the government, who at the best of times are slow and unwieldy in actions.

Remember folks, the FCC are the same people who consider saying Fuck and unintentionally showing a nipple the worst thing imaginable.

By enshrining the internet as a utility there's all sorts of legal precedents involved here. If the FCC misbehaves we can let the judicial branch do its thing. It's not like it's going to end up like this:

You need to do some research on what the FCC does that doesn't include things that people shout about when they feel their freedom of speech is being attacked.

Remember folks, the FCC are the same people who consider saying Fuck and unintentionally showing a nipple the worst thing imaginable. See this is the "I don't understand the internet and giving more power to the government scares me because I don't like the government" argument. Here's the basic way I explain this to people. Do you like the way the internet works right now? Because right now we're operating under, more or less, net neutrality, even though there aren't enough legal protections keeping it the way it is. If you want the internet to remain the way it is right now, you are in favor of net neutrality.

If you want the internet to remain the way it is right now, you are in favor of net neutrality. I understand the internet just fine, but do continue to paint me as a uneducated child that will surely win me over. I also understand that the government sucks at regulation and if you don't think corruption and potential for abuse of power exists in your government you're kidding yourself or blatantly ignorant of how politics should work as compared to how they do work. I don't like the way the internet is right now, as I said before we have issues, the FCC ruling does not address these issues but they sound nice. So yeah if you like the internet as it is right now, net neutrality is great. However if you for some reasons don't enjoy being screwed over by your isp this does nothing to help. But don't worry guys, the FCC will be fair, I mean it's not like the chairman is a former cable lobbyist.
