Because it's hard to be super serious on a forum all the time when you're talking with your friends and sometimes you just really want to shitpost, so this way you can shitpost in this thread and not fuck up the other threads, right? It's a pretty normal thing, most big forums have one (or several) threads like this.
No, that's not the purpose of this thread. The purpose of this thread is to have reasonable discussions just like anywhere else on TL/LL, but about topics that are irrelevant to any other particular subsection of the site. It's not supposed to be "excusable shitposting" and I'm pretty sure that was never Moonbear's goal when he made the thread.
That may have originally been the purpose of the thread but you can't disagree that its taken a mind of it's own and the range of that initial post has totally dissolved to post about whatever.

I don't even know what kind of bait this is anymore.

Yes, but that doesn't make poor posting quality excusable.
That you can talk about whatever you want doesn't mean your posts shouldn't be sensible.

all I know is that the mods are totally anti fun whenever it suits them and pick and choose when to apply that rule
kind of bs imo

"Poor posting quality" is a pretty goddamn hard thing to get people to agree on.
I mean, yeah there are posts that are just shitty and don't belong.
But when at minimum a sizeable minority of the people who regularly post in the thread are enjoying the picture, how can you argue that it's poor posting?

I mean, you keep reading into this like the mods have some crazy agenda when it's really more likely that they're either lazy, don't follow the thread closely enough and miss some bannable offenses that aren't reported, or just have differing viewpoints on what to action and what not to action.
None of those things are new to LL. All of those things were true of me when I was moderating this thread when it was still on TL, lol.

I would argue that being lazy, not following the thread closely, and having differing viewpoints are pretty poor qualities for moderators to have and should rightly be criticized.
I definitely don't think there's a crazy agenda going on.

Yes, well maybe those people shouldn't be moderating if they can't be bothered to do their job properly. You may argue that they are just volunteers or whatever you choose to use as an argument but it's totally silly to have a wide breadth of posts that somedays fall into a category of being warnable and other days doesn't. It doesn't help that some of them have a large stick up their butt too.

Then you're being unreasonable because TL at large has enough mega-threads and subcommunities that it's impossible for every such thread like this to be policed as stringently as you're expecting.
That would likewise entail a moderation staff so large that having consistent viewpoints would be impossible because internally not everyone would be able to interact with one another regularly enough to maintain such consistency.
You're asking for things that together are within most reasonable contexts mutually exclusive.

Guys shut the fuck up don't make the evil corporate system actually assign us ambitious and overly involved moderators to micromanage everything.
Not that there are any, but better be safe

If your argument is that there's only so much moderation to go around and it's impossible to moderate everything, then why are things in the off topic thread that are only questionably against the rules moderated against when things in GD that are blatantly and obviously against the rules not moderated against?
Seems like if you only have enough staff resources to moderate part of the forum, you should focus those on the primary part of the forum and not on Off Topic.
If the rules in GD were actually observed in the first place, then when somebody got warned in OT there probably wouldn't be nearly as much pushback.
Also, I am totally down to watch Soniv play Viktor.

Can we just start our own forums with Satsuki theme and Pro Evo thread?
Or we can just enjoy their slightly worse but still cool replacements Jinx face and Rumour mill thread.

I think "power hungry" is perhaps a bit too glamorous a description
|
Especially since there is really no power to be hungry for
