Don't feel obligated to reply, it might just be a good thing already to vent this, haha. I didn't feel sad when my grandmother died. Although I was concerned that I'd feel sad/bad, and it was something I didn't want (esp. considering how it can snowball, cf. some of my posts here lately). That was the thought process. I don't want to feel sad. Even if I do it'll change nothing for her, so why would I put myself in a worse state? Of course I don't blame the people who were. However, I didn't stay near once more of them started to gather (before the office in the funerarium, in total there prob. were 50+ people?) because the constant crying, sniffing, nose-wiping, etc. was becoming overbearing, the whole thing was deleterious (really? Sounds better in French). I don't blame them but it had some kind of "social correctness" to it, my grandmother died, I ought to be sad, if people realised I wasn't at all they'd prob have been puzzled, found it abnormal, or been offended. My approach over the course of the week-end ended up being something like "Fuck Of course I didn't show it nor mention it either because they were all sad and grieving, and had their ways of coping with the loss. They didn't do anything proactively either, it was more being angry at the societal idea than at the people who may or may not have enforced it. But I don't think anyone should force oneself to feel bad for someone else if it doesn't happen naturally. It may be selfish and look weird to others, but who in his right mind wants to genuinely suffer? | ||
