I might still be playing League if they had a similar package in its early days.

I made so many posts on this subject in the old mega GD and a few of the subforum GDs, I really, really dislike League's model, and Heroes seems even worse.
How did the experience of working at Mr Burns' Nuclear Plant influence Homer's composition of the Iliad and Odyssey?

I'd just learn Dota at that point if I wanted to play a new moba.

Grinding out another full collection of cards in MtGO sounds much more appealing amirite?

Lol you don't grind in MTG whether IRL or online.
Gotta buy what you want to get anywhere.

The grind is at least possible in LoL/hots/Smite /whatever, but considering said 'grind' in mtg' is also based on a certain win rate and the ability to continually play, not to mention being at the mercy of the rng gods as to what you manage to get...

Even getting a full set of cards simply by playing is way easier in HS.

That certainly helps things especially since it's so fairly priced ($30 for all current and future champs). Hell I would have played like $60 (maybe more) up front for something like that in LoL.

I think that approach is reasonable as well, though I don't know how commercially successful it is.

It's interesting that when HoN moved from being a full paid game to F2P, they didn't retain the full unlock as a purchasable option, and instead made it a limited feature relegated solely to legacy accounts. I think that was a questionable move, but it probably didn't change the fate of the game regardless.

EDIT: I also thing being able to buy stats resets/sub accounts is an awful idea, but whatever.

I've played 2 games of HoN ever and I own the full version. I'm an idiot.

I read about 'going infinite' on MTGO yesterday and it just sounds so unappealing to me. All the guides are like 'NEVER PLAY LIMITED EVER YOU FUCKING MORON'

But it's what I like

Honestly, if you sold that HoN account around the time it went F2P, you could have made a ton more money than you paid to get it.

I have no idea what they're worth now, though.

Isn't "going infinite" purely limited? It's about being able to earn enough tickets from your wins to continue doing so without spending real monies?

I am having my friend LR Eureka 7 to me and it is hilarious, mostly because he gets so attached to characters, although he is only referring to them as MC, love interest, not really bad, bad guy, crazy bitch and bad, bad guy.

You can do it in constructed queues as well. It's technically better value for going infinite because you don't have the cost of the cards you're keeping at the end and the variance of drafting.

I dunno about how Smite is doing (probably pretty well considering the World Championship had a good payout and audience), but everyone I know who plays Smite more than once or twice has the God Pack.

Man, if I could grind out games in Warhammer and get a squad per like 10 wins I'd be fuckin all over the place getting people to play with me lol. 20 games per week npnp.

Is it the sense of progression or something? For me I just like to hop on and play some games with my buds. At the same time I also love the feeling that I've progressed further in the game and closer to some goal. For me getting the gold to unlock a new hero is cool. Getting a master skin is awesome. I can see how this looks like I'm a sucker for the grind but I'm also the same person who will 99% not finish my league placement matches... it's too much of a grind. I also stopped playing arena in HS and just constructed for dailies/kicks/waiting between HotS games lol.

Ah. I never got into constructed for mtgo because I was playing paper constructed and did not want to have to double dip.

@owb - only do it if you really plan on getting into it/you're ok with 100% spending a bunch of money

at least with HS, you can get everything fo' frizzle (technically)

Bear in mind that most of those articles are assuming that the fixed cost of buying a deck good enough to win constructed queues is a given. Given the cost of a constructed deck, you may not actually lose money at a fast enough rate in Limited for going infinite in constructed to be worth it, depending on how much you play.

Ok, I just read the SCG article for going infinite in MtGO, and it suggests playing Momir Basic tournaments (as in, you start the game with a Momir Vig, Simic Visionary avatar and have a deck with 60 basic lands) until you have enough tickets to buy into a constructed format.

If that doesn't constitute a grind, I don't know what does.

Owb I've learned a shit ton about MTG and the potential finance involved recently so we can talk later if you want.

I realize I may not be an amazing example as I'm very slowly slipping down the rabbit hole but at least if my addiction gets worse it can be a 'do as I say not as I do' kinda thing.

And soniv you said you never got into MTGO constructed... Do you own the game?

That's one way of doing it, but also realize many of those guides are super outdated. As of now momir basic dailies (the only ones with an EV worth anything) are 3 times a week at like 9:30 in the morning on weekends.

(lol I only learned what momir was yesterday too)

I think were I to attempt to go infinite I'd first have to see what daily times work for me (I'd try pauper, for example) otherwise I'd just suck it up and get the cheapest T1.5 constructed deck I could make and learn.
