I don't know why monte is asking for an apology, and I don't see why he thinks tweeting like that is smart. It's not really like monte was part of TL at that time either. I assume he knows more background info than most people, but it's a stupid tweet and it will not do anything helpful. Also wax so toxic yo | ||

I mean, the LoL subforum stopped putting out super quality content regularly, the only thing that was going on were the occasional Chexx translations/interviews. Not to mention we as a subforum got hidden fairly recently in the last TL forum change, while it might not of affected any of the regular LoL forum-goers, it definitely limited the number of new eyes that would be able to see the LoL subforum. | ||

Anyone who even remotely follows TL could tell there was a shift in goals and overall direction for the site. It's not like nothing happened for 2 years and suddenly we got a LoL team. There was already a pretty clear shift in TL's approach to E-sports that happened well before TL got a LoL team. | ||

Again, I don't get the whole "needs apology" thing. i don't see the treatment of the subforum as bad at all. they let the mods govern the forum themselves outside of hammers coming in to ban spam bots and stuff. the league community here was free to do whatever they liked and were given staff. if its because they weren't put in the front page? eh, everyone who was in the Lol subforum saw every written piece anyway, and the others were not interested. they never actively promoted league but thats not always a bad thing. the strategy forum was at least functional which is more than sc2 and dota 2 were for a large portion of their existence. In addition two entities(reddit and riot) controlled so much of the league media it would be difficult to bother competing especially since riot has a policy of poaching anyone who does good stuff about league. to get into league TL would have to either go all in with paid staff to compete or do this kind of move with the merger to instantly "gain credibility" with the league scene, much of which is too young to even have watched BW or know TL quality. The apology is typical monte arrogance. i wish we had more of that monte arrogance about himself and his scene rather than about riot and league as a whole. he's gotten rather soapboxy lately. | ||

Official coverage doesn't make sense without the associated logistical change of acquiring a team. Without that, coverage in an official capacity doesn't make any sense. There's zero gain as an organization entering the field solely for providing "content", especially given that writing staff at the time wouldn't make the daring move of covering only a less-covered region like China at the time and instead primarily provided LCS coverage, which was an oversaturated market. For it to be "worth it" it essentially had to go alongside the acquisition of a team. Expecting TL to pick up C9 at that point in time, as nice as it sounds, is a total pipe dream because there were literally zero people on TL Staff with the knowhow and the connections to scout and negotiate with amateur talent in League of Legends. The current arrangement only happened because a prominent team suddenly no longer had a title sponsor, which allowed the merger to happen at an organizational level, through negotiations between Nazgul and Liquid as the owners of their respective organizations. | ||
