What blows my mind is how that privileged thing works.

Why is every white person regarded the same? Like... you take a look at the british, and you know, historically they have kind of just butt fucked a whole shitload of people. But like, how do you lump a group of people like the Ukrainians with the British when you talk about Race and privilege? When has Ukraine hurt anyone? How long have Ukrainians went without being persecuted by someone? For how many years have Ukrainians had the same rights as their peers?

Yet a Ukrainian person in america is considered just as at fault and privileged as someone from Britain.

Spoken like a truly privileged white male cis scum.

Hey man, my family is British. lol.

Just saying, even here in Canada the Ukrainian people hadbeen called "White Niggers" for Decades. Hell, the Canadian gov't took Ukrainians land in both world wars and put random Ukrainian citizens in work camps.

I mean, blame me for what my ancestors did, but why do Ukrainians get blamed for their ancestors getting discriminated against and abused? I think thats pretty damn racist and fucked up in its own way.

There was no internment of Ukrainians in WW2 (the Soviets were on our side after all), only Japanese, Germans and Italians. Also we interned Jewish refugees which is a bit more fucked up, there's at least some rationale to keeping track of immigrants from enemy countries.

Actually, most Jews were flat out turned away at the Canadian border. Look up "None is too many."

In less depressing, Isaac-related news, never take Technology after you've taken homing shots and Ipecac which is fucking AMAZING combo; you lose the bomb shots and while homing Tech is good, the damage and speed is horrible. THEN, ESPECIALLY don't take Monstro's Lung after that because since you can't 'charge' Technology, your damage is MASSIVELY reduced. Had to turn down my first possible Mega Satan kill in favour of Forget Me Now in the Chest so I could try and get more items.

I think I may stop taking Technology entirely.

Right. We also let some in and then put them in internment camps. Not sure which is worse. One more thing to dislike WLMK for.

New patch, still old thread. The GD has been left to fend for itself, now is the time brothers and sisters! let us reclaim the homeland!

I unno, I like WoW but I got tired of concepts in it. Things like 3 talent choices a tier, removal of fun abilities and simplification of classes for the sake of some nebulous concept that we had too many buttons to hit. Then the entire pvp scene turning into everyone is essentially a healer and good luck killing anyone even if you strait up out play them. Stuff like that urks me. If I lock out a healer's casting school repeatedly and it still manages to hit no mana and can still heal because well it wouldn't be fun if you're punished for running oom.

AA's balance hits the everyone is pretty broken and you better not screw up. It's less forgiving but that's what I'm looking for. If I backdrop(disengage for you WoW hunters) at the wrong time I'm really screwed. If you backdrop at the correct time you can dodge lasso's, stuns and all kinds of things.

I wanted something a tad more meaty and AA is doing that for me. That's what matters in the end, if you are having fun then have fun and to hell with everyone else.

Getting bored of a game doesn't mean it's always going to be boring to you. I got bored of WoW after playing for like 5-6 years straight, but lately I've been having fun leveling, doing dungeons, and just generally playing. I just needed a 2 year break from it.

A lot of people left during Cata/Mists, and with Warlords looking like a much better expansion (supposedly less tier downtime, Garrisons, no flying so more immersive world, nostalgia trip with Outlands, etc), I know plenty of people that are interested in trying again.

Doesn't hurt that this is the first xpac since WotLK that isn't a bunch of filler.

I didn't play pandaria, but I'd argue that the zones they did put into Cataclysm were well done. The story was streamlined, but it was coherrent and (IMO) quite good in the immersion level.

Most of the sins of storytelling Blizzard committed in Diablo 3 can be found in lesser forms in Cataclysm.

+ Show Spoiler +
The flight to Hyjal is all "LOOK IT'S DEATHWING AND RAGNAROS ARE YOU IMPRESSED YET?", and then you go straight to Ysera and Malfurion (previously awe-inspiring, distant characters whom approaching should have warranted some buildup) for your marching orders. The zone is a case study in how to make what should be an epic story mundane and/or cartoonish.

For example of how badly it was botched, compare Thorim in Wrath to Alysra and Fandal Staghelm in Cataclysm.

Thorim had a full third of a zone dedicated to quests which set up his character and his place in Ulduar. You get inklings of some of the other guardians in the zone, but Thorim is really the anchor. The designers involved in this understood that you don't need to introduce every single boss to people for the raid/dungeon to be cool, you just need one or two well established characters, some allusions, and the rest will fall into place.

Alysra and Fandal Staghelm are covered by two quests total, and all of the important stuff happens off camera. All you do is deliver Fandal to Alysra, and they aren't mentioned again outside of an offhand comment by Ysera worrying about Alysra. There's no quest thereafter that explains that Alysra betrayed you and took Fandal to the Firelands. You just run into them in the raid and are like, "Wtf, didn't I pass Fandal to a green dragon? What happened?". Meanwhile you get tons of one off quests to try and cram as many of the other eventual firelands bosses into Hyjal as possible.

From a bird's eye view Cataclysm's stories are coherent, but the implementation/experience thereof is severely lacking.

I wouldn't call Cataclysm "filler", but I definitely disliked the railroading.

I stand by the fact that Ulduar is to date the best raid Blizzard ever designed both thematically and gameplay/challenge-wise.

The ONLY thing I always felt was lacking was for the XT-002 Deconstructor hard mode.
Blizzard had the chance to set some amazing contrast and produce real emotion and they were lazy about it.

If anyone doesn't remember that boss, it acted like a small child, pouted/screamed and even spoke in a small child's voice all while killing you because it was simply playing with its 'toys.' Every 25% it would take a break and its heart would pop out for a limited time, allowing you to deal double damage for a while. If you managed to destroy his heart entirely in that time, the hard mode would begin.

I always thought that once you killed the robot's heart, that 'small child' part of him would be crushed leaving behind only a soulless killing machine with a bland monotone voice (something along the lines of HAL maybe...?). The contrast would have been truly chilling, especially if you think about the fact that in some way you have destroyed a being's innocence. Unfortunately Blizz simply added a couple mechanics to the fight and otherwise everything was the same.

Cata was fine, it had the only tier ever that people considered harder than the new tier (Heroic firelands vs Dragon Soul). Most people still considered Heroic Rag a bigger deal than Heroic Deathwing.

I remember trying one of the first Ulduar bosses before I stopped playing. Really wish I had played more of it.

Karazhan still holds top spot for me.

I don't think anyone can really argue with that, Ulduar truly is the best raid they ever made. They just marred it by having the rest of WotK with trash tier raids. Yogg+0 and Firefighter were so awesome fights. Algalon was visually stunning although a little bland mechanics wise.

The scope of it was amazing too. You truly felt like you were entering a world of gods and legends when you entered Ulduar.

2nd favorite mostly because it was what sucked me into WoW raiding. MC chaos with 40 people was a blast. I was the Jeff of my guild, and the only reason they kept me around was cuz I was a dwarf and had fear ward.

edit - and my first run with them, I got the quest item for Benediction/Anathema

It's the law of Jeff. At any given time there must always be a Jeff within a group. If we remove Jeff then we need a new Jeff to fill the void.

LOL NO FUCKING WAY

As long as you don't raid, WoW is a great game for parents. Easy to pick up and put down, not too intensive so you can multitask with it, and little penalty for baby-induced death.

Which is essentially one of the main reasons why I'd never play again.

Anyone who plays fighting games have any advice for how to improve?
Was talking with Soniv about this a little. I'm practicing combos and shit but I don't feel like I'm improving at all. I know what I want to do, but I can't seem to coordinate my fingers/think fast enough to get there.

Literally, all I can say it play with an opponent more than just hitting up training mode. Even if you have to play story mode. When new people start a new fighting game, of course first thing they do is practice combos. But generally when it comes to fighting something that actually moves and hits back, the combo opportunities are limited without opening people up to mixups (or just wait for opponent to hang themselves).

Got to learn the movelists of your characters, what move do you use to zone/rush down/keepaway/what move should I not do because it sucks/unsafe, mixups, options in different situations, assist types, punishes etc.

I mean, yea learning combos is important because you don't want to punish DP's or whatever with a sweep/throw, but don't let your entire way of learning the game be how to combo a training dummy.

The one thing Ulduar and Karazhan have in common is variety and pacing. I'd easily peg them as the two best raids in the game. If Blizzard said, "We're releasing a new expansion, and the first two raids are Karazhan and Ulduar again" I'd buy it.

I'll let you know if there's another one in WoD. :3
