Good deckbuilding will take you up to rank ~10 or so at least.

You should. There's too many important Naxx cards to most current decks. Malygod Rogue is the only one I think that doesn't really use any Naxx cards. And freeze mage (wait, no, Mad Scientists are pretty good in Freeze Mage). Every other deck uses Naxx cards as a component of it. Naxx is critical to hunters, Secrets Mage, all forms of Druid (Ramp less so), Control Paladin/Warrior, Zoolock, Shaman, Handlock, and priest.
Just buy the wings and spend a couple hours playing the wings. They're fun, you'll enjoy yourself. You don't even need to do heroic Naxx.
it's prefectly possible to make decks without naxx cards, just don't expect to be a bonjo and hit legend or something
and even better without naxx you'll be stuck making aggro decks which is amazing since aggro is the only real way to play for people of the male gender

Most aggro decks are entirely dependent on Naxx, actually. Most aggro decks are deathrattle/undertaker based.
Even without, Webspinner is extremely important to Hunter decks.
I'd estimate you'd reach rank ~12 with a non-Naxx deck.
