The way high level D&D works out, Alert scales infinitely better.
The value of being first in initiative every combat just goes up and up because the more potent magic becomes, the more going first = I win. Rolling twice on weapon attack rolls loses usefulness over time by comparison.
This isn't even accounting for the fact that while Savage Attacker is useful only for a specific subset of characters, Alert is basically good for every conceivable character. Given the short list of feats in 5E thus far, it wouldn't surprise me if Alert would be on every character's list of feats to take at some point, even if it might not be their first one.
EDIT: Also, as I mentioned to soniv when I first skimmed the PHB, the Polymorph rules are still horrendously open-ended. I would suggest either heavily houseruling the entire Polymorph line of spells, or just banning them altogether because they're pretty much a nightmare to deal with.
Yeah never being surprised while you are concious is huge. Never have to worry about an ambush making you lose your first turn ever again. and since you have +5 they are going to eat a fireball before the fight begins
raided flex 2 with a PUG group tonight. towards the end of the night, people started to drop out and we didn't have enough deeps for nazgrim nevertheless raiding and getting new items is pretty addicting.
Played my first game with my Daemons today. Playing an all Assault army (and a slow one with the Nurgle models) is really different from my Necrons. It's a wildly different playstyle, the Troops kind of have to just survive until something is close enough to charge, while the Daemon Prince and the GUO do all the heavy lifting. Which the Prince did, he fucking rolled up like a boss, drew a bunch of fire, and completely styled on some Crisis Suits and a Riptide like it was his job. My next additions have to be some sort of fire support or very fast moving units to add some shock value to the list. The Plaguebringers should help with that, but I'll need more than that.
It used to reassure me, now it just reminds me of lies.
I really like how we view music tells us a lot about ourselves. Romantic songs go from bringing joy when we're with someone, to bringing sadness or bitterness when we're not. Calming songs go from pleasant when our frame of mind is balanced, to annoying and pithy when we are stressed or troubled. I love music so much.
@D&D: I'm really hyped for 5e, want to buy the books and try it soon. Asmo, what's your setting like? What should my character be like?
Can I be Chaotic Evil? How does this shit work My phone died sonib but you're gonna explain to me how I mine for fish maek character when next we meet.
