On that topic, I need a recommendation for a new anime. I'm pretty new to the genre but binged on a bunch of popular ones this summer. I've seen: Attack on Titan (enjoyed) Sword Art Online (a bit creepy, my least favorite) Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (my favorite by far, amazing show) Deathnote (good, dragged on a bit) Trigun (good, but it felt like there was so much build-up with ultimately a pretty thin plot) Gurren Lagann (wtf this show) Kill la Kill (I think I'd have found it too weird if I watched it first, but did enjoy it) | ||

 But it's not like he had a decent piece of music to work with either, so... If we got into a videogame music contest I wouldn't link Touhou because the main draw of the originals are the melody and atmosphere, the sound quality itself is pretty bad and I appear to be much more tolerant than the average listener. I'd switch to stuff like Deus Ex's intro, Donkey Kong Country music and the likes (and I'll stand that DKC II > DKC in that regard). Edit: wtf you guys, I see a coworker off before pressing "post" and you make me a whole page behind. | ||

I want to try to stay away from the popular ones if I can though---yeah I know it's hipster-y (can you be a hipster when discussing VG music?) but bonus points 'cause I'll get to introduce people to some tunes they may not have heard before in this context. Also Alzadar try Evangelion. srsly | ||

As far as FFX is concerned I actually quite liked the battle theme as well as the ever popular 'To Zanarkand.' Again, not the best around but not bad. I want to dig something up from my past. I think we did a shit ton of Sonic music last time we had this conversation so I'm not gonna go there... Ah fuck the past, check this one out. The fucking piano on this is absolutely ridiculous. AND that bass solo | ||

I'm talking about your "I don't click videos with japanese characters in the title" principle. I know Shovel Knight a lot because a friend of mine linked it while he played (he links a lot of stuff, and tries to make me play a lot of stuff; he hasn't yelled at me yet for starting Commando instead of one of these), pretty good on its own but same as Touhou, I wouldn't link that to a non-gamer for example (or even some gamers) because 8-bit sound irks people when they expect "music". (About the VN stuff, MonMusu uses mostly free of right music and amateur works (likely with their permission considering I recognised a circle's name in the credits)... including a celtic folk arrange of a touhou song (itself self-admittedly inspired by a celtic song, I assume the people arranging it don't know and it makes me laugh).)So Wave liked Evangelion after all the "wtf is this shit" posts? Kaiji was very fun for the first season, but it's... particular, both graphically and in its over the top manner. Here's for me ('cause Fx won't like it if there are 10 Flash thingies on the page ready to devour all of the PC's RAM). I assume it's not exactly good for people who haven't played Umineko, though, but it fits the spirit of the game (and of most scenes it appears in) to a T, with the dignified music playing for a cheerful reunion of people before turning into a horrific, yet (most importantly) grotesque scene, while retaining the cheerfulness all along as if nothing special was happening. (Edit: it's not a description of a scene, it's what the progression of the music evokes to me; although a few scenes were it's used play out like that, and it's so fitting it makes them creepier.) | ||
