I am a self proclaimed Gundam expert so let me break it down for you. There's the main Gundam timeline (Universal Century Gundam), then a bunch of one off shows which are Gundam shows but don't have any kind of story continuity. The main Gundam timeline goes like this, in chronological order: + Show Spoiler + MS Igloo (short, not worth watching if you aren't a Gundam fanboy, fun to watch if you are a fanboy) Mobile Suit Gundam (the original series, made in 1979 and good for a show from 1979 but doesn't meet modern standards) 08th Mobile Suit Team (really good, highly recommended) Gundam 0080 (also really good) Gundam 0083 (mixed reviews. I like it) Zeta Gundam (sort of a reboot of the original series, very similar plot. I like Zeta Gundam more than the original and I'd say if you wanted to understand UC Gundam only watching one series to make it Zeta. They remade Zeta recently as 3 movies that tell the whole story, those are a good option.) Double Zeta Gundam (do not watch this) Chars Counterattack (movie. Really good but DO NOT watch it before you've seen both Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam, because it is way better if you understand all the subtext. A lot of it is about the conflicts between characters from those two series who are in the movie but not fleshed out or explained within said movie) F-91 (Kind of a stand alone movie but still in the UC timeline, it's alright.) Gundam Unicorn (Kind of like Igloo, fun if you're a fanboy but stupid if you're not) Victory Gundam (do not watch this) Then the stand alone Gundam shows are like this: Gundam Wing & Endless Waltz (decent, I like it) Turn A Gundam (weird as fuck but I liked it) Gundam X (pretty good) G Gundam (AMAZING but more of a goofy super robot show than a real robot gundamu show) Gundam Seed (never watch this or anything with the word Seed in it) Gundam 00 (First half is really good, second half kinda meh. It's similar to Wing so if you liked Wing I'd recommend 00) Gundam Build Fighters (OMG WATCH THIS) Gundam some other shit that I haven't seen because holy shit that's already a lot of Gundam I am Gundamed out. So BASICALLY, these are my recommendations. If you want the authentic Gundam experience, watch the Zeta Gundam movies, or if you feel like 6 movies watch the Mobile Suit Gundam movies and then the Zeta Gundam movies. If you want stuff that's as good as 08th Mobile Suit Team, watch 0080 and 0083. If you want something that's more like Wing, watch Gundam 00. If you want Gundam that's goofy, awesome, but not serious at all, watch G Gundam or Gundam Build Fighters. Never watch Seed, Double Zeta or Victory Gundam. | ||
