MMOs: On one hand, it makes me sorta sad that I'll be missing out if a bunch of people from OT all start playing together, but then I remember that not only do I never want to spend that much time playing any game ever again, I also remember I don't have time nor would I likely be able to play when most people are able to.
In other news: First day back in clinic (sorta) today! Half day there, then had to go shopping for pants because I discovered to my horror last night that none of my dress pants fit properly (for multiple reasons), then went grocery shopping and carried way too much at a time. I'm friggin' exhausted but I feel like my life is mostly back to normal now, despite all the little discomforts and issues and stressors that still plague me.
Hopefully stream later. Never got around to doing much in terms of counters so that may have to wait for another day. May just have to use a pen and paper for now.

i'm well aware that a lot of the places i applied to aren't hiring me due to a lack of relevant experience. why hire a guy with baking experience to work a cash register at a store when there are ex baggers or ex mcdonalds employees to hire instead.

And Wtf? Correct me or chastise me if I'm being condescending in some way, but how in blue fuck do you need relevant experience or a BA to work a cash register? I've never had a retail job so I'm fairly far removed from those kinds of things.

Relevant experience isn't needed to run a cashier, thats true. but when there is high unemployment, you get more choice from applicants, which lets you select people With experience over those without it.

Guaranteed millions or bust. I actually did some day trading with some extra money i had a couple years ago, ended up making a couple grand over 4 months, not great but pretty good returns for what i started with, but its a lot different when you have to invest your rent money compared to just some money you got as a gift from a grandparent.

Yeah I was kind of surprised this is the kind of jobs he was referring to.... especially after someone talked about IT jobs with the "unreadable code" part.
But it's the US and things might be different. I feel in Canada you can make a living working on full time minimum wage, but it might be harder in the US due to health care and other shit.

Minimum wage here is 7.93/hour which works out to just under 17k a year full time. however, in the US its pretty damn hard to find a job that pays minimum wage to actually work you full time. most places don't want to hire full time employees so they don't have to provide benefits. likewise its incredibly difficult to get overtime. Its cheaper to hire 2 part time employees than 1 full time employee.

Best bet for unskilled jobs is to try and get hired at Costco. Chipotle and Starbucks also seem ok.
If you ace all your exams you can also work as a tutor and make 17/hr if you're lazy, 25/hr if you look for the right place and prove that you're competent, and 50+/hr if you seek out Chinese parents and convince them you have the secret to their kid getting into Harvard.

The only reason minimum wage isn't below the poverty line in the US is because the poverty line doesn't account for things that have become basic amenities in the last 20 years(that is to say, minimum wage is well beneath what any reasonable person would consider poverty for an independent adult). Also the cost of living in most major cities has skyrocketed, and people trying to live on minimum wage are probably living in or around a major city. I'd wager that a lot of people in true worry about trying to make it on such low wages forego having healthcare insurance because the fine under the new system is basically nothing in comparison to actually paying for the it(until you actually need it, then you're completely fucked) for the first few years.

Get a job with my company, overtime through the fucking roof here. Since late April I haven't had a week under 45 hours, with it usually being over 50 since it's usually 10 hour days (7AM-5PM, with the occasional half day on Saturday). Granted, this is landscaping/irrigation, so it's manual labor, but we do get prevailing wage work, stuff like Arboritums for Universities, irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, even systems to get rid of collected rainwater to water a forest behind a parking lot (don't ask, it seemed really stupid to me, but fuck it, for 30+/hour, I'll do whatever the client wants).
Have you tried landscaping jobs/golf courses? It's late in season, so you probably wont have much luck, but it might be OK, plus a lot of those outfits do snow removal, which fucking sucks hours wise, (4AM r earlier to whenever usually) but it's at least work.
E: Looking up minimum wage, since I've never had a job that paid it, how the fuck does SC not have a minimum? Or is it just Federal and they don't have a State?

I'm not much of a tutor. i struggled to explain basic statistics to my ex girlfriend while we were dating. i mostly explain by doing, which isn't very good for teaching.

In orlando it'll probably be hard to do snow removal, but landscaping does keep going until dec/jan here. no car makes me a no hire for a lot of those jobs though.

He's also asked states to raise their minimum wages above the federal minimum, because trying to increase the federal minimum by the amount needed is one of the biggest "I want to waste time" things you can do with the culture of the legislature.

minimum wage hasn't kept up with inflation over the past 50 years.

states can set minimum wage above the current federal minimum of 7.25 anytime they want. florida's is 7.93 for example. if you don't have a higher standard you follow the federal minimum.

need to think ahead, PX. Well after 20 applications its difficult to say i haven't been. :/ i've known i've be laid off at the end of the month and spent a good portion of my free time job searching, but no where near is hiring a full time position for someone with my job history, and the part time jobs that i could be hired for specifically told me they won't hire me if i have another job. i have savings, but shit man its really not what i want to be doing. That sounds like teenage girl level of saying "I'm not interested." to me. So they are hiring for a PART TIME position and you cannot have another job. Sounds legit. yeah. its frustrating as hell. the grocery store next to me isn't hiring people who haven't worked at the franchise before which sucks too. because i have bakery experience so i could easily fill that job. Sorry what kind of job are you looking for? I wanted to make a joke about PX looking for a job doing some Necromancy, but I feel that I've missed my chance now.
