When I first started posting on TL I made a big detailed thread about how Terran music was overpowered and about the first 3 pages of posts were people taking it seriously.

Yo man, Terran music is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Protoss or Zerg. Coming from a Protoss player (l0l jk, I just 4gated back in S1 of WoL.) God I miss the days of SC2 when I could 4gate and go evenly against a master rank player as a lowly Silver scrub ![]() E:Well almost even, damn my not getting a robo vs cloaked banshees when I was told he always goes cloaked banshees >.> I should look into my old team, see how they're doing, the OBS games were hilarious.

It really depends on the "familial" aspect of a community, something that TL LoL is actually very strong on, like you said. But I'm sure the admins care more about the competitive aspect for the community than off-topic content. I'd argue that non-x content/discussion is what builds the community the most. Like, we know everyone in GD is interested in LoL, but the fact that we frequently had OT discussions let us learn more about each other and created that "guild-like" feel we have now. Obviously, the separation into OT was necessary and a good move for us, but we have a strong community feel because we were free to talk about whatever we wanted and got to know each other more than just on the x context front.

![]() I mainly use tl for general, lol, and a bit of sc2/dota if there's a big tournament coming up/some interesting news articles or threads. I can point to the moment liquidhearth became a thing as the exact moment i went from vaguely following heartstone, and playing it a bit, and watching w/e events there were back then, to not touching it at all. It was all just "oh look, some hearthstone stuff" then spending a few hours enjoying that, every now and then, and that stopped when they removed it from the main site. Same with dota, I don't actively follow it, but I got to find out about all the TI4 qualifiers from seeing the newspost on the front page, and got to read about the compendium, and was probably going to end up watching bits of the qualifiers themselves here and there when eating/relaxing/whatever after seeing it on the sidebar/reading the threads. It was awesome to be able to have, like someone else said, what basically felt like a reddit for esports, minus all the shit which makes reddit suck. Now I'm probably going to just end up not following/watching dota at all either. ![]() Why separate all these communities ![]()

A couple posts in the announcement thread that answered this exact question suggest that it is considered a success. Something about there being blogs about Hearthstone now and more people with really low post counts around which means more new users.* *This is a pretty unfair thing for me to post because it's not even close to a paraphrasing of what was said, but I am so fucking salty right now.
