It's Star Trek. Complaining about the acting not being top notch is akin to complaining about plot holes in Doctor Who. You just roll with it.
The ds9 acting's first season acting isn't great thou, I recall it getting better later on but I'll let you know when I actually get to the later seasons. Catching episodes in my free time working my way along at a glacial pace. Avery Brooks thou is awesome all around.
