Trap could win a GSL if he never has to play a Zerg. So if the terran players hunt down all the zergs there's a chance. That's how asymmetric tournament balancing works.
You could very plausibly argue that major SC2 tournaments having very variance heavy formats is probably more uncompetitive than ping, time-zones, or anything else you want to cmoplain about
