Take care of yourself. No code S news worry me, some GSL news but no code S news worry me even more. There is news reading between the lines. The GSL name is still there, it’s Super Tournament 1 which I’d assume means there’s going to be a Super Tournament 2. With Super Tournaments being very much the GSL’s side-tournament that lacks the hype and prestige of its big brother, it would be extremely odd if they cut down the latter. My guess is with the new calendar, it’s easier to throw in a Super Tournament that can be done in qualifiers and a weekend rather than scheduling a Code S that runs longer. We don’t have much tangible news to go off, which is a tad frustrating but we’ve not had much bad news to go off as well. If I was a Korean pro I’d much rather be able to focus on Katowice with an ST after with a gap to Code S than have the two big tournaments close together. I don’t know how the windows all line up, the Chinese seem to be pushing hard in terms of pickups for their team league too, and their league’s main stars are almost exclusively the top Korean players. My guess is that is a factor as well. They’re not just ringers for these teams they pay their salaries, so any Code S schedule is going to have to factor that in too.

Don't want to speculate about why Afreeca is starting with a super tournament- could be good or bad. Instead I am just happy for the announcement!!

In the last 14 months people have been worried about sc2 dying, WCS not continuing in 2019, GSL not continuing in 2019, sc2 dying again, GSL not continuing in 2020 and now GSL continuing without Code S in 2020; there is no need for you guys to be worried, no clue have found points towards the impending doom that has been prophesized right after Sc2 went out of beta. It seems reasonable that Code S will be rescheduled according to the new order in Sc2, which is still being defined at the moment; unless you have serious reasons to be worried for, you'd better feel safe and reassured by the announcement we are commenting.

Also the more open schedule with the season running from March to March allows them a bit of breathing room. So they don't have to start Code S, do the whole Ro32 in 2 weeks and then go on break for 2 weeks because of IEM and WESG. They can actually take a bit of time, wait with starting Code S until those are done.

It’ll probably make for a better Code S season anyway, more preparation time, players don’t have to spread themselves thin and there’s not a gap between rounds with another tournament in between. I’d rather see an uninterrupted Code S that’s given time to breathe and can be followed start to finish personally. Better for the players too I’d imagine.

The World Championship is happening further in time so it would make sense for Code S to start later during the year(after Katowice). There is no EPS in February but we will have a GSL Super Tournament, aren't you happy? For the purposes of this discussion I'd like to move away from the specific people in this thread who are worried about SC2's future. I'd like to have an abstract discussion. There is a certain percentage of humans who are attracted to "doomsday"/"apocalypse" scenarios. So the news headline "SC2 Esports Is Gradually and Incrementally Declining" won't get this group to click and read. However, "SC2 Is Dying" gets a click and their attention much more often. News outlets relying upon views/impressions/clicks are motivated to use hyperbolic doomsday headline #2. This creates an echo chamber of panic. This is part of the reason post apocalypse games like "Fall Out" attract certain people. A certain segment of the population has a bizarre attraction/fixation to the "impending apocalypse". I call this is "Bob Wiley" effect. Here is Bob Wiley in action. + Show Spoiler + IMO, in 2019 and 2020 SC2 esports continues its very slow and gradual incremental decline. However, there is still enough interest to have lots of cool events like the GSL Super Tournament though. In fact, interest is so strong a very big esports company signed a 3 year deal with Blizzard. I'm a happy camper. I'm looking forward to another pretty damn cool GSL event.. I"m confident Tasteless and Artosis and the rest of the production crew will do a great job. As fun as SC2 esports will be this year I'm at peace with the fact that SC2 esports will continue to slowly decline. As a result, in 5+ years the amount of support Blizzard offers to the esports community will be substantially scaled down compared to the level of support today.

I can't wait to see the great games and production quality I fell in love with back in 2010. GSL had me hooked with FruitDealer's win, and I sincerely hope that they continue to be the most prestigious tournament in the world of Starcraft 2 ![]()

They have until March to wrap up all events instead of November now. Plus if they kept to the old scedule, they would finish GSL/WCS korea by november and then have to wait 4-5 months until the global finals. I agree with the opinion, as katowice next year will be the new global final, I think it'll be very odd for korean scene to just end all tournaments at the end of October with only there are only three tournaments beside super tournaments confirmed (or the three tournaments are all super tournaments that make everything suck). I guess gsl will all be like one month or more later than last year so it could probably fit the time

I can virtually still hear those complaints: "Can't they place the premier events properly without overlapping?" Well, this year they do - with more time until the World Championship now. But obviously some guys find other things to complain about... ![]()

But nonetheless I believe there should be no further scheduling problems this year because of the new ESL Pro Tour + Korean Leagues format. So no need to worry about SuperTournament first...
