Imagine a Stats vs Classic final after all the hype
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

If he beats Dark hopefully that would mean that Classic's PvZ has considerably improved.

Certainly giving me the same vibe tho.

I think Serral has firmly seized the 'greatest peak foreigner' title at this point, and to be honest he has for me for quite a while. His peer dominance is far beyond what Stephano ever achieved and he's been similar against koreans.

Except for the fact Stephano was playing in 2 eras where there was no region locks and koreans were rolling over everything. Not just any koreans, but some of the greatest gamers of all time.

I respect Serral, he's extremely talented, but what he's doing now Stephano was doing when SC2 was the most watched and competitive e-sport in the world.

That's such a vague and stupid statement. Stephano played in the pre-KeSPA era. The players he played against (Polt, MC, DongRaeGu, MMA, MarineKing) had nowhere near the quality control today's players have, and he played against an enormous amount of mediocre koreans who would get steamrolled into irrelevance today (inori, boxer, lucky, thestc, sound, real, jyp, post-prime nestea, heart, ganzi, alicia, terran rain, daisy, keen, revival, crank).

That's bs.
The era he was playing in was far more competitive than any era of LotV. Don't let the nature of LotV fool you like nowadays players are mechanical gods or anything.
Plus most of the guys coming from kespa (even superstars) were as mediocre as the players you listed on sc2

you guys gave me so much depression commenting constantly that we overrated Serral and that he shouldn't keep climbing in the PR despite being so goddamn dominant.

This guy is legit. Pay attention.

I believed them and bet on innovation to win. Man the regrets are real.

I mean let's not pretend that this result isn't surprising (personally I thought it'd be 3-1 either way but had a hard time deciding which way), but the sheer disrespect Serral gets on here sometimes makes no sense to me and it makes me so happy to see him play this well on a big stage again. This is the third time this year that he's shown up big on an international stage. Maybe he'll lose to Dark, maybe he'll lose to Maru in a stomp. But he's damn good and I hope people see that clearly.

Sheer disrespect? I usually just see people questioning Serral's hype train just because there's been so little interaction between him and (top) Koreans. And pretty much everything seems to think he's really good?

I'll go through and post a bunch of Serral-related quotes on here that seem stupid to me, but just him being placed as #9 under goddamn GuMiho (who, for the record, has not won a SINGLE offline Bo5 against koreans this year, let alone top tier koreans, while Serral has now won his third.. on top of that, Serral has three top-tier Bo3+ wins - Rogue, Classic, INno - while GuMiho's best Bo3 wins are against the likes of sOs, ByuN, herO, Trap. That's ridiculous to me. Disrespectful.

uhh...I'd still easily put Gumiho above him.

I know Serral's win was epic, me and a lot of others have egg on our face big time...but chill. He might very well go down 0-3 in the next round for all we know and we'll be trash talking you back. Why? Because he's still barely played any Koreans this year. We still don't have a good grasp on his form vs them. Gumiho has been tried and true all year and he actually plays in the GSL which is still the ultimate test. Whether or not he's played x-amount of bo5s or not his results carry more weight. His results against Koreans were also more recent as well (remember it's a power rank). Serral's last match against one was in April before today...

On the other hand, you can say that the overall skill level today is much higher than it was back then during Stephano's time. SC2 is at a place where everything is pretty much figured out and the balance is better than it's ever been.

With half of the players retired, there not even being enough good players in Korea to make the Ro32 anything but a mostly shit-show and foreginers being locked in their own gated garden, I am not sure you can make such inferences.

In Stephano's era, half of the players (literally every KeSPA korean) hadn't even started playing yet. When Stephano won IPL 3 (which he did over zero koreans who would even rank in the top 50 all-time) the Code S Ro32 had such glorious names as Noblesse, Clide, Ensnare, asd, Virus, Genius, TOP, HongUn, July, Killer, CoCa. The Korean Happy made Ro4 that season. It was a joke outside of the absolute elite (MMA, Mvp, NesTea, maybe guys like DongRaeGu and Leenock who were coming into their own), but.. oh wait. Stephano played zero offline sets against any of those guys in their prime.

Stephano also had a better Proleague record than most of EG-TL so sure, whatever you say

Keep in mind you can only beat the players you face

So mediocre that the elephant in the room mostly eventually crowded out the old bunch.

GuMiho has certainly been tried and tested all year, but he's been failing a lot of his tests and trials. Do you also think that Maru's TvT could be garbage, since he's only played one series of it since March?

I felt bad for Classic at Katowice. Almost everyone was cheering for Serral and Classic got barely any support after 3-0'ing him.

Then when Rogue 4-0'd Classic the crowd all roared for him. He couldn't win.
