Completely off-topic but I've been thinking the last two days about players who have innate game sense and adaptability vs. macro/mechanic monsters who come into form once the game's meta gets figured out.
For example Neeb seems very good in his engagements and straight up play but doesn't adapt really well when players throw off book stuff at him. It may come with experience. Same with Innovation who seems to be now rounding into form but is very susceptible to get sniped.
You very rarely get those players that both have the macro and mechanics as well as that in game adaptability and game sense to react to situations. I think Mvp, Life, and Taeja all had that. On the other side of the coin you have players like Stephano who can come out of retirement and win just based on an innate understanding and strategy of the game. sOs as well in bundles. I feel like Flash was a really good SC2 player but unlike in BW he was missing this quality in SC2. I think my favorite game in SC2 is Life vs Taeja game 3 at 2014 Blizzcon because I don't see any other two set of players playing such a back and forth game when it started off in such an unorthodox fashion.
Has stuichu ever done an article about this? It ties a bit into the preparation vs. skill player argument as well.

While I usually hate it to see that some players of specific races learn important things like splitting and microing years later then some terrans, whe shouldn't forget that is how terran has to be played and in other races its a bit more optional. And terrans learning to split vikings wasn't an ez thing after all since you have to perfectly setup each fight - ground army, air army, spell casters... one of the most annoying things, when you don't have your army perfectly in place yet and the opponent already storms you or whatever... and then you insta-lose the fight (and therefore the game because Terran macro...) but its also fascinating to play and win by control, nut by a lucky spell cast or something. On the other hand when I switched to Zerg i did many things right that I did learn the hard way with terran (splitting etc) but did other strange things bad that every noob zerg could do
