And there might be less complaining about it if there were still Koreans at weekend tournaments, but who knows. Honestly though, is there really that much complaining to begin with really, are you sure that it isn't just a few vocal people? Just like there used to be a few people who posted stuff like "Oh, only Koreans left in the tournament, time to stop watching." back then. If nobody speaks against them, then "a few vocal people" become the voice of the community. So I'm speaking against them. The truth is that it feels more "welfare" than last year because there are more tournaments where this region locking actually applies. Last year we had three seasons which are these championships now, additionally we now have other "weekend" wcs tournaments region locked as well. That wasn't a thing last year. That's the reason people shout these statements. Another truth is (probably) that if it wasn't for that region lock we probably wouldn't have sc2 at any dreamhack/IEM this year. There aren't more tournaments where it applies, there are less tournaments where it doesn't apply. Obviously the whole system changed and weekend tournaments is all what is left of wcs, but looking at it from the "more region locked tournaments" pov is totally valid. This sentence explains why it isn't valid, then concludes that it is valid anyway... Because it is. What really changed is basically three wcs seasons becoming three championships AND the rest of weekend tournaments deciding to region lock (they were part of wcs last season as well). Foreigners got more "region locked stuff" to play in, koreans got less tournaments to play in. That's what actually happened. Again, the WCS system is gone, as you said. What you see this year is a replacement, not an accumulation. Koreans got less tournaments to play in, but foreigners didn't get more to play in, they just got a different set of tournaments. There was more WCS foreigner content last year than there is this year. I simply tried to explain why people say these things. From an outside look all the weekend tournaments which weren't region locked last year are region locked now. And yeah sure there was more last year because they were more totally open wcs tournaments last year, but that's not the point, is it? And I explained to you why people are wrong to say it: because it takes this lack of global tournaments and pretends it's an overflow in foreigner only tournaments, which it is not. If you look at it and say: hey the region locked wcs system last year got changed to a lot of region locked tournaments this year and there simply is a lack of global tournaments (which were standard last year) or if you say: hey the wcs system last year changed to region locked championships and all the global events got changed to region locked weekend tournaments (but are less than last year). Both povs are valid and represent how the current system works. You simply decide to phrase it the first way. The truth is that we got less weekends tournaments (no matter if "global" or not) and more region locked tournaments as a result (even though the structure is different). We also got less korean starleagues. | ||
