What happened in the CPU match? I just saw the end where his opponent was going ham in chat.

I didn't see the full match, but Hinoipl went for both gold bases as 1st and 2nd exp. He even got a slight supply advantage at some point. I couldn't watch everything (doing some work), but when I looked again army supplies were even and CPU was knocking on the front door of the gold bases with a tons of immortals/sentry vs a ling/roach army.

Also CPU paused the game at some point due to lag.

Too bad most of the best foreigners can't play these because they're in the plane from Toronto or en route to HomeStory Cup. :/

Yeah, this is really odd scheduling from ASUS. It's like the worst possible time to schedule a qualifier, when everyone's traveling.

Suppose that also says something about the whole "WCS America Qualifier" happening later tonight too, though.

With the unfortunately late announcement of the ASUS ROG tournament, the qualifiers were forced to be very soon afterwards because of the ever increasing cost of travel and hotels. The timing for the qualifiers is tricky as the HSC tournament and WCS qualifiers are happening right on top of the time frame we had for the ASUS ROG qualifiers. With the current dates, there is 1 day between today's qualifier and HSC, and next week ASUS ROG qualifiers are on the off days of WCS EU qualifiers. But it is true that the first qualifier is probably not possible for players who were arriving from Toronto on the same day.

Remember, some players might have received an invite and thus are not participating in the qualifiers.

MiNiMaTh wins against Apocalypse and qualifies for ASUS ROG, in due part because Apocalypse thought going bio with cross server latency is a good idea.

Or Minimath is a better player.

Apocalypse missed literally every split timing because of latency and had delayed reactions because of it, that was obvious just from looking at it.

I'm not saying Minimath is or isn't a better player, but Apocalypse going bio with cross server latency instead of going mech on Coda (which isn't the worst mech map) was not the best choice. If you can't split your units in time due to delay you better have macro like Cure to not just die.

Decision making is a pretty big part of being a good player. If he made poor decisions like this in his gameplay, then maybe he's not that good. The game isn't purely based on mechanics.

After all, Apocalypse did qualify!
FYI, if two players whose home server is Korea met in the qualifier, naturally they were allowed to play the game in the Korean server.

Guess we gotta be happy with what we've been given, could be worse with no tournament at all.

Hearthstone brings more viewers for sure, and I suppose we should support all remaining tournaments with a fervor, but when tournaments shrink in prize pool, less people will watch... hurting future prize pools even further, losing even more viewers... and thus begins the vicious cycle of SC2's decline.

Sbenu was a much needed injection of capital and marketing for the SC2 scene, but more or less limited to Korea only. I'm sitting here thinking that I should be content with how things are and enjoy the game for a bit longer, but the fact of the matter is that staying stationary where we are equates to being left behind, with the hyper pace of development many other esports are experiencing. We NEED a Sbenu of the international scene, and soon. We're already headed down the path where the only large tournaments left would be WCS, GSL and SSL, with a sprinkling of local tournies with tiny prize pools.

We can only do it for the top8 of the qualifiers since otherwise the tournament would take too long to finish with bo3 matches in each round. The first qualifier lasted around 6 hours anyway. Luckily the second was over in less than 5 hours.
