I'm not even sure why I'm making polls for this final. It's a complete joke. Classic will absolutely crush Dream. I am willing to take a sig bet with anyone about this. The only terran in the world that even stands a chance against the glorious Classic is Inno. Dream will always be a B teamer on SKT behind the world's greatest sexiest most interesting and handsome skillful majestic terran.
Dream best TvP in the world, gonna be another 4-0. His TvP has been incredible for a long time, it's only recently that is TvZ has improved a lot that he's getting noticed.
This is an interesting final from a storyline perspective. On one hand we have Classic, a Protoss many had written off as a Patchtoss, abusing the race to steal a GSL from soO. He's trying to validate his win as more than a fluke, and trying to become the first champion of Korea's two leagues. On the other, we have Dream, standing on the verge of the title of best Terran in the world. He's also trying to avoid following in teammate soO's footsteps and becoming the Kong of the SSL.

Today Dream could make his mark as the best terran in the world and finally achieve what his potential has promised, or become the second coming of soO. Classic could finally shut the haters up who for some reason still think he isn't good.

I dunno man I'd still probably count Maru as equal to Dream, but maybe in short-term form Dream would be best terran.

Looking at the viewer numbers on both streams, I'd say that it's either a voluntary move to get more ppl on best 'Zubu or they just want to profit from the fact that apparently no one knows Azubu

One vote and taeja tl bias is enough to fuck me over. But fuck it sig bet is on that Dream is the better terran for 2015. And if he gets 3 silvers and maru has one gold and wins terran of the year fuck that Dream is better.

2 bases is one more than they need to kill you, always remember that.
fair enough
How do you basetrade a 2 base Protoss?
CHECKMATE, mutalisks
ling/hydra/infest is cool though
I only play roach/hydra->vipers->BL and ling/bane->hive nowadays
I'm experimenting with various shit. Ling/bane into hive sounds fun, I'll give it a shot. Currently I like anything into 6-12 mutas to make the Protoss overreact, then transition into something else (usually featuring infestors)

Dream spawns in the top right Classic spawns in the bottom
2:00 Barracks/gas -> reaper for Dream. Classic opening with one gas after a gateway, followed by a cybernetics core at the natural ramp.
3:00 Classic expands and takes another gas. CC -> factory for Dream. Classic hides a probe. The reaper scouts the top left first.
4:00 Twilight council being made in Classic's main. Starport starts for Dream. The reaper has looked around the natural.
5:00 Classic gets three more gateways, almost entirely walling his natural, and blink. Dream moves out with 6 marines and a mine, killing the pylon unpowering the warp gate research.. Classic baits the mine shot and cleans up easily, but Dream drops the main and kills 8 probes.

8:00 Dream 53 vs Classic 38 Classic warps in a few units offensively. Classic is only on 19 workers vs 43. A bunker and widow mine fall easily. The only observer flies into a missile turret but a very nice time warp allows Classic to kill the marauders. Tons of SCVs are dying.
10:00 Dream 34 vs Classic 45 The bunker in the main falls. Dream GG's! Classic wins!

Dream spawns in the bottom left Classic spawns in the top right
2:00 Nexus first versus barracks/gas. Dream actually getting a marine despite having enough gas for a reaper. That will cost him. Gateway/double gas for Classic.
3:00 Dream building a factory. Classic scouting the bottom right first. Dream checking the top left with his first marine and scouting for proxies with his second.
4:00 The probe runs into the second marine but gets away. Classic expanding. A reactor was made on the barracks and is moved to the factory. MSC/Stalker for Classic. Dream building two hellions.
5:00 Robotics facility for Classic. Dream gets two hellions into the natural, then one in the main but only kills 3 probes. Medivac and two mines for Dream. Dream getting an engineering bay.

Both Cure and Maru have utilized this build at times on larger maps where protoss players cut early stalkers, it can do critical damage if micro'd well.

My only real casting pet peeve is the preemptive talk of nervousness, tilting and slumping. I understand casters might feel a need to say something to dramatize, but taking this game and extrapolating all that from Classic's eyes is stupid.

More likely they haven't been in positions where nerve control plays a potentially deciding role. Classic is playing in the finals, of course he's nervous, that doesn't mean it'll reduce him to a stumbling wreck. Which is why it's surprising to me that Moonglade indulges in that crap - he was a pro player himself.

Pretty sure Dream had more supply blocks in one game of his series against HyuN than INnoVation had in his entire prime.

you know what, if I were in that position (the player), I'd take one stiff drink to calm my nerves before the start. Like some surgeons are known to take a drink before surgery to steady the hands.

That's what I said in the first post. He is just way more clutch etc. Who knew maybe INno was the skynet beta and now skynet has arrived.

I don't think INno is stupid, he just seems to be nervous about playing more varied builds in matches. Also he seems to make a lot of mistakes under pressure. ex; wcs global finals, gsl ro8 v life.
Even though people describe him as robotic and unemotional on the outside, I think his play is often guided by a lot of emotion he doesn't show.

I think one of innovation's biggest weaknesses is that he seems to lack confidence in doing more varied builds in bigger games. And with that he has partially earned the reputation of being a robot, which is partially true in that regard.

Dream spawns in the bottom right Classic spawns in the bottom left
2:00 Gate/gas vs barracks/gas. Dream gets a marine despite having about the right amount of money for a reaper. Factory is made. Classic proxying a pylon in the top right area.
3:00 Classic getting a stargate. A reactor is being produced on Dream's first barracks.
4:00 A marine is sent to scout, seeing pretty much everything before dying to the stalker. Oracle being made and chronoboosted. Classic's first stalker is being sent across the map. Dream burrows a mine behind the command center. Very sneaky.
5:00 Classic seems to see the mine, avoiding it completely, but he doesn't do much besides kill a number of marines. The oracle suicides itself onto SCVs! A second oracle shows up and completely rampages the mineral line before suiciding itself onto another mine and killing four more workers by doing so. A stalker shows up which Dream can't actually kill. Antother two stalkers and a zealot show up, and an oracle is still in the main. Dream GG's! Classic takes a 2-1 lead!

I think its more a combination of weak western scene and awful time for NA. It's currently 3:30 on the pacific coast - no casual viewers are gonna be up for 3:30. Even EST, 6:30 is way too early for most casual viewers to come in. Even the LCK - which has a much bigger western fanbase - is only around 40k now.

Considering how important GSL and SSL are, having a countdown on the banner seems nice to me Something clear and visible, and on the left of the banner, not on the right like there was for some RedBull events.

I'm not saying it's fixable, I'm saying that it's just sorta a result of korean tournaments in general.

Very good question! I'd like a weekly "upcoming events" thread (I know, it's the exact same info on the calendar and each RL thread - but I feel like it would be easier to have one place). I also get a lot of my info from twitter, but that usually just alerts me of "tune in now" stuff (or it gets lost).
I meanwe'll be over 10k viewers soon, but still kinda disappointed, EU should represent more! Well as long as it's a success in Korea (it seems to be), it's all good.
Dream spawns in the bottom right Classic spawns in the top left
2:00 Fast gateway + 2 gas for Classic. Dream going barracks/gas. Classic is already moving a probe to near Dream's main, proxying a pylon. Reaper for Dream. A cybernetics core is at home for Classic.
3:00 Proxy stargate nearly in Dream's face. Expansion + reactor for Dream. The reaper arrives to find a stalker.
4:00 Classic is putting a second pylon by his stargate and making an oracle. Engineering bay and factory for Dream. Dream getting a bunker at his front...
5:00 There's a turret on the way but Classic gets seven workers before Dream gets to finish it. FLEET BEACON FUCK YES Dream got a turret so he is pretty safe, but only has 15 workers + 5 marines and a mine. Classic is poking at a depot on Dream's front. PROXY TEMPEST

7:00 Dream 34 vs Classic 34 Dream is still on one base with single marine production. He's getting a stargate. Tempest starts shooting at workers, killing a half-finished MULE. Dream does nothing. Medivac on the way, but no stim. There are mines, but there is a detecting oracle. Dream pulling SCVs to his natural.
9:00 Dream 41vs Classic 42 Classic has three tempests now. A medivac filled with marines moves across the map. Classic easily breaks the natural. Dream has a drop in Classic's main but no stim or anything else remotely useful. Dream lifts his buildings. Dream GG's! Classic takes a 3-1 lead!

The great thing about that build is that you can't do much at all if you don't immediately deny the oracles from doing the damage. Basically you lose the game unless you figure out he is making tempest. You can't win a base trade or a straight up fight lol.
The thing is, if you recognize immediately that he did the fastest possible proxy, you win the game as a terran player because you can immediately drop an ebay/cancel your natural expansion.
Then you just walk across the map and win b/c the protoss cut stalker/msc

I'm always so conflicted with builds like this. On one hand I think you should do whatever it takes to win, but on the other hand I get so bored when a finals is just aggressive builds over and over. I don't find it enjoyable to watch at all.

Assuming Classic wins this, I wonder if he will still be written off b/c both his championships are teamkills.

Normally I'd say yes, he will be ignored, but there seem to be a lot of Classic fans here.

Most likely yes, with one longer break somewhere during the broadcast.

If you missed it, in that exchange Classic countered with phoenixes the second Dream left and Dream realized his timing was too good realizing there was an obs in his base.

I remember back on Steppes of War, Day9 did a daily on one of the games Gretorp played on his stream vs Axslav going Phoenix/Colossus. Gretorp basically talking about how you can commit heavily to Vikings to beat all, or completely ignore Viking production and be heavy on Marauders, with a ton of Barracks.

Impressive preparation from Classic, allowing him to now rank among the greatest champions of our time with 1 GSL and 1 S2SL. The preparation was unbelievably good, even if he lost on Deadwing it felt like he knew what Dream would do in advance 95% of the time, he showed good preparation on Vaani too (the zealot !) and obviously his proxy stargate build was damn strong against the greedy style of Dream.
That being said, I don't disagree with those saying the better player skillwise lost. Dream should have either scouted more thoroughly or entered the mindgames with more power than he did. I think his pride (I don't need to scout you, I just need to reach the midgame and I'll crush you, which I'm pretty sure is what happens between those two in practice) ended up being his demise.
I hope Dream can recover from this and does not end up being another soO. Those guys deserve victories.

This was a really fun finals. I did not feel very invested into neither player, so I just watched for fun and hell some games really delivered! Dream seems to have a general weakness in the early game and he needs to learn the shit out of this finals if he wants to be a real champion - because starcraft is not played as a competition in spending koefficient of your glorious macro, but in winning games. Also to him applies what I have said lately for several other people: if you are not X, you should not try to play like X - in this case X=Maru and Dream needs to build a second starport when faced with 5 colosses.
Classic was one of the late period BW players with the most potential but he had to be confident to find it. I remember one game in particular where he seemed to gain confidence halfway through and turn it from an almost certain defeat into an impressive victory. Even when he won gold in SC2 people were shitting on him saying he probably didn't deserve it, but they don't know the real story. Preparation was a key part of this victory because it gave him room to be confident.

Dream's play was maybe a bit underwhelming, but it can easily be blamed on the teamkill situation, where they know each other so well. Maybe his macro/micro was a bit off compared to what he usually shows.

His decision making also. Game 1 - kills about 10 probes with harass, loses his entire harassing force, dies to the counter attack, SCVs not pre-pulled, no units for his bunkers. Game 5 - didn't pull the SCVs to buffer until his army was already dead.

Yeah Classic totes schooled Dream in this series...The only game Dream won was when Classic mis rallied his obs and thus missed the doom drop (which he had army for easy).
Something in the back of my head heard Terrans the world over screaming at their monitors. Don't cry about Toss Terrans. Toss is what it is due to your race. I play Zerg, but I can't help but feel like Dream got a bit Protossed, especially on the later maps. For the record, I hate the non-Zerg races equally.
Hmm 3 out of 4 wins with cheese. But as many pointed out, great preparation.
I am still not sure if I like the protoss openers of being that strong and sometimes hard to scout. Pure frustration to play against and also to watch.
I didn't see much of "skill" in this series, not because there was none, but because the games were over very soon, but many in this thread say, that if it comes to skill, the worse player won. If that is the case, than this is no title for eSport, i guess. It is ok if a map or 2 are lost because of cheese, but the whole game being designed so versatile isn't "competitive".
While I do agree that cheese is part of the game, and there should be small chances for a lesser player to win, it should still be hard to pull off.
That being said, of course cheese is a build order win and you can argue, that Classic simply outsmarted Dream. Which would also be ok, since, for instance in soccer, the team with the best players sometimes loses to the better strategy.
However, I hate the ammount of protoss BS in the games I just witnessed. I hoped it gets reduced, but I fear there will be even more in LotV

I wonder if people will stop underestimating Classic now, after a second tournament win...
I think protoss players that win by such gimmicky play will always get underestimated. Sure, to choose the right build is an art of his own (or propably the trainer did that), but lots of players still count a macro-game-win higher and that is where he needs to pull of his wins. At least in the finals. I just rewatched the way to the finals and because he didn't win only by cheese, I am more impressed now then just by the finals
