Well the strained French-American relation probably goes back even further to the American Revolution. France directly supports the revolution and in turn builds up debt leading to the French revolution. America doesn't want to get dragged into it and there is some resentment from both sides.

The French revolution strained relationships France had with basically every major country at the time haha. It was such a large challenge to the status quo (executing a monarch for a Republic) that all the monarchs of Europe feared they would be next. You didn't have a revolution this dramatic again until the Bolsheviks took over Russia (and once again, the world feared the impact of the global communist revolution), and likewise the Soviets were isolated diplomatically.

Thats an exaggeration. I've have yet to meet anyone (even christians) who thinks that the Earth is 6000 years old.

i lived in a super diverse and liberal community in california and i could still find a bunch of people that actually thought that. our school played some catholic school and they started out handing bottles with bible sayings to anyone that wasn't white.
