The French surrender joke actually is similar to how fans view progamers. It doesn't matter if you've won countless tournaments in the past, if you bomb out of the biggest one in an embarrassing fashion, people will give you shit for ages It was invented around 2003 by South Park : P It was re-emphasized during 2003, when France was against the Iraq War. The hardcore 'Muricans tried bringing that up in "retaliaton", and you had the silliness with the Freedom Fries and shit I've never heard it from before that era actually. And most of the French surrender jokes seem to just come directly out of what South Park did. Do you think it was around beforehand? Well, at least the perception in the States dates back to WWII: WWII wasn't the best moment for France. And then there was Algeria, and IndoChina, and the general loss of its colonies post-war. Throw in some confirmation bias, and the stereotype stuck among Americans Well the strained French-American relation probably goes back even further to the American Revolution. France directly supports the revolution and in turn builds up debt leading to the French revolution. America doesn't want to get dragged into it and there is some resentment from both sides. The French revolution strained relationships France had with basically every major country at the time haha. It was such a large challenge to the status quo (executing a monarch for a Republic) that all the monarchs of Europe feared they would be next. You didn't have a revolution this dramatic again until the Bolsheviks took over Russia (and once again, the world feared the impact of the global communist revolution), and likewise the Soviets were isolated diplomatically. Wait...why am I posting about history in a Dreamhack LR thread? because all muricans think the french are a bunch of sissies. Yea, but then again the typical "murican" thinks Obama was born in Kenya, and that the Earth is 6000 years old. :p Thats an exaggeration. I've have yet to meet anyone (even christians) who thinks that the Earth is 6000 years old. I have. But they were Russians in Germany.

Actually, 40% of Americans believe the Earth is 10,000 years old or less. It makes me very sad to call myself American
