Not sure about that guys, it looks like Hydra threw the series. He pretty much DOMINATED the entire series up to the point where he engaged 10 seconds before his dual upgrades finished with his entire army. He then sent in a few ultras here and a few ultras there but they were staggered.

By far, the biggest reason he lost the series was this game and that bad decision (mistake?). After that happened he was on tilt.

Hydra is a much better player than Polt but that's just my opinion. Putting my flame suit on Meow.

Okay, Hydra did not throw away any games. In the game where he supposedly "threw" away units before upgrades, Polt forced an engagement. It was either that or have his hatches die. What would you choose?

For the Ultras, he had to defend some drops. Again, his tech would have died if he didn't defend the drops.

This series was completely Polt's wins for coming back against your so called superior player. Polt forced good engagements and he dropped in multiple places very well. He deserved the win.

Fucking epic. Dude beats down a literal TvT god in ForGG, fights off 2 set points against Bunny, and then comes back from 1-3 down against a very strong ZvT'er in Hydra. What an exciting final series, awesome awesome crowd as well.

Polt just has that extra little something that others seem to lack when it matters most. In the biggest moments he played his best, while it's arguable that Hydra folded a bit at times in the last 3 maps. Polt's positional play became extremely strong in the final maps... he kept either trading well enough or taking awesome engagements that led to a strong advantage or a final victory. Very impressive stuff, after slumping a bit so long last year, I kind of wrote him off this tournament when I saw he drew ForGG in Ro8 (how foolish of me) but he definitely proved me wrong and it made for great viewing.

He didn't throw anything but the Ultras at the units that were dropped. The reason the Ultras looked like they were trickling in was because he split them to defend stuff and to try to set up multiple channels of attacking. Polt saw that and just outplayed him with god like micro and better engagements. If anything, Polt forced the Ultras to attack in small groups like that.

OK, that was an awesome tournament. Polt is a legend, he went behind in the quarerfinals, semis, finals, looked dead in several match points, but he still won. No complaints about the quality of the entertainment.

But now that it's over, we can revisit Blizzard's revised WCS plan and see how it's working out. Yes, they gave us a thrilling tournament in which foreigners got some of the spotlight, but I see problems on the horizon. I understand that since Hydra, Polt and ForGG are legal residents of "foreign" countries, they can't be denied from participating in WCS. But for seasons 2 and 3, this could really ruin the gravitas of WCS. They're basically the three foxes that snuck into the henhouse. The foreigners were all essentially set up like bowling pins for this trio to knock down. All the Koreans were eliminated by other Koreans. It was exciting this time, but it could get old pretty fast if this is how future tournaments go, an elaborate and expensive ritual that inevitably leads into another battle of the fox trio. The player makeup of WCS is basically three Koreans that would be backbenchers on top Proleague teams, the usual suspects from Europe and China, and a few plucky players from beyond the oceans.

Whatever the flaws were of the 2013-4 WCS seasons, none of the regions produced a roster that looked like a mid-tier tournament. I really have to wonder if it was a good thing for the WCS regions to push most of the "European" and "American" Koreans back to Korea, where they now toil mostly in obscurity. Yes, they did block the rise of homegrown talent, but if the three Korean foxes are gonna do that anyway, maybe that's the worst of all the possible outcomes.

I think as long as Snute or Bunny can continue to make it to the playoffs (and don't have to teamkill each other), they definitely stand a very good chance of winning. They are probably at or near the level of the three Koreans - all it might take is bracket luck to the finals, and a tired Korean, and bam foreigner win. Not to mention that even on even grounds, Snute and Bunny could feasibly take 3 series in a row against all of them I think.

Some of the other Europeans (and Kane) also seem to be making big strides and can definitely threaten, even if they don't win it all they are also capable of knocking out a Korean paving the way for someone else to win. SC2 is volatile enough. Also Kane did beat Polt in the qualifiers, though of course that wasn't down-but-not-out Captain America fighting from near death in a classic comic book storyline.

I also feel like the guy who mentioned that when he expects Polt to do well, he crashes hard. When you write him off, he does well haha. He definitely knows how to put on a good show in-game and out of it, lol'd hard at the "everyone should cheer for me because I'm the most handsome" bit.

Yeah, if Polt, ForGG and Hydra regress to the mean and gradually become just average (like Violet), then the WCS tournament can be what it was intended to be - a prominent place where foreigners can bask in glory. The last tournament showed that Bunny and Snute are not hopelessly outmatched, and that Showtime and Serral have the skills to eventually blow the whole thing open. It would be really cool to see this happen.

<_< Does anyone know how long it usually takes Ogaming to upload their WCS games? I'd really like to relive this epicness in the language of the hosting country.

While Hydra is a very good player, "throwing games" isn't acceptable in the final games. Consistently and solid nerves is one of the keys to a remarkable player, and is one of the reasons why Polt, despite not having top tier mechanics, is able to consistently win so many premiers.

as someone who would normally (hydra is kind of the exception to this) rather watch foreigners than Koreans I wouldn't change a thing. there wasn't a single Korean that didn't come with in a knifes edge of being eliminated by a foreigner so i'll take my chances on it being the same three over and over again and like my odds that it won't be.
